Prologue:
The time is 2 years after the events of Brood War. There is an uneasy truce between the Terran Dominion and the Protoss survivors on Shakuras. Kerrigan’s broods remain mostly dormant on Char and Aiur, with only the occasional scout leaving their atmosphere. On the backwater planet of Pergos V there is a Dark Templar settlement that is small in size, but holds fierce warriors that constantly train for their next confrontation with the Zerg. Unknown to the Dark Templar, Pergos V contains many caverns that lead into the core of the planet, which hold a near limitless supply of minerals and vesvene gas.
Shakuras is being rebuilt. The entire Protoss fleet, now commanded by Patriarch Artanis, plans to revive the once glorious civilization and end the petty feuds between the two Templar societies. Although it is slow work, the two castes are slowly accepting each other’s ways and working towards a better future for all Protoss.
On the fiery chasms of Char, Kerrigan stands as the only known leader of the Zerg. Daggoth and any remaining Cerebrates and Zerg under his command have been assumed dead or long gone from the Korplu Sector. Kerrigan is finding most of her planets running out of usable resources for the Zerg, so she sends one of her most cunning Cerebrates, Cerebrate Thor, to find new mining areas for the Zerg to possess.
Back on Pergos V, the Dark Archon Lord Master Jekyll instructs the finest of Dark Templar in the ways of advanced stealth combat, espionage, and sabotage. Praetor Scryer is busy training mortally wounded Dark Templar on the different techniques they can perform while in the Stalker exoskeleton. Both Protoss are the best in their training, and both are survivors from the battle of the Overmind. Unfortunately the peace that the Protoss have enjoyed in the past two years is about to end, and an eventual conflict will erupt between Jekyll’s Elite Warriors and Cerebrate Thor’s Zerg Swarm. This is… Starcraft: Core!
