Blizzard is proud to officially announce the next World of Warcraft expansion set, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King! With the opening of the Dark Portal, and the renewed war to stop the Burning Crusade's destruction of worlds, the heroes of Azeroth have given little thought to the frozen wastes of Northrend – and the terrible, ancient powers that wait there. Yet the brooding evils of the fallen Nerubian empire and their malevolent sovereign have not forgotten Azeroth...
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King™ will open the forbidding wasteland of Northrend to exploration by the hardiest adventurers. New levels of power, challenging new dungeons and encounters, an exciting new character profession, and the game's first hero class are just some of the new features awaiting players in Wrath of the Lich King.

Laaaaaaameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... ::)

It'd be interesting if being a Death Knight ruins your rep with Alliance. Hah.

Well I think it would ruin it for everyone and maybe gain rep for the Scourge

The trailer is machinima... I don't find it too impressive. I'm almost tempted to go renew my char and reinstall wow just to level my guy to 80, but then I remember that WoW, like any other drug, is a bad addiction. :)

Honestly why do they want to shoehorn Death Knights to either Alliance or Horde when this is the perfect opportunity to open up a third SCOURGE faction.

They should add it to the paladins of both Horde and Alliance but instead of keeping them the Alliance or Horde make them join a new faction the Scourge.

It'd be pretty cool to start off as an alliance paladin and then as you level up, do certain "evil" quests that corrupt you into a death knight over time...

but then again I've never played WoW or any other MMORPG so I don't know how any of that stuff works :P

So Wrath of the Lich King is coming out.  I've included a youtube link to the panel presented at Blizzcon if you haven't already seen it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q3W0v098sI

Couple interesting points:

Plans to make level grinding from 1-60 faster.  I like this because I always wanted to create more alts but with the new content it makes it impossible to catch up with my original characters.  Great idea.

Deathknight starts at 55? - 70?.  Another good idea.  I know some MMORPG's have done this and people haven't liked it but for WoW it makes sense.  Why would you want to unlock the Death Knight Hero Class and start at level 1?  The fact that it's unlockable by casual questing (NO RAIDING) is great!  Blizzard said the questline is compromable to Warlocks getting their epic ground mount.

New "Shattrath" Northrend capital city is... DALARAN?  Very cool!  Since WCII my 2nd favorite human nation was Dalaran (Gilneas 1st).  It's great the mighty wizards of the Kirin Tor are making a come back and serving at the forefront of Northrend activity.

New Expansion promises LORE GALORE.  Ancient Dwarven Race may reveal secret to Dwarf origin.  The ancient kingdoms of the Nerubians will be accessible.  Players can visit the Dragonblight, where all dragons come to die.  And of course, The Lich King himself will be interacting with the players the moment you land!

Level cap raised to 80 with new talents and abilities.  Mandatory.  Expected.  Necessary.  There will be 51 point talent trees but the abilities will be compromable to 31 and 41 point talents.  Blizzard doesn't want the new talents to overpower and force the player to go deep into the trees.

Oh, yeah.  And we can use our flying mounts from Outland in Northrend!  Provided we complete a "de-iceing the wings of your mount" quest.

...

True AA7, ya the whole Death Knight thing allows you to make a new character at a high level so I think you keep your old character and you create a new death knight.

I would be interested in hearing more about the world battlegroup they are adding into northrend.

Ah cool, I hadn't realised that you first need to "unlock" the Death Knight by going through certain leveling/quests with another character first; that makes A LOT of sense and is actually cooler at least in terms of game mechanics than the silly thing I suggested.

*goes back to not playing WoW*
