Blizzard made nice with the guy who was making the Galaxy of Starcraft mod, even flying him out to their offices, after he renamed his map to Starcraft Universe. Ryan Winzen said he's still working heavily with some other people on a release soon.

It never went anywhere, the video got taken down because Blizzard was incapable of telling that it was on SC2 and then started spouting more of their mod bullshit.

Well, put it this way. Now, it stands a chance of being published without being immediately banned by Blizzard - especially not after they pretty much gave the project their blessing.

I don't understand why they flew him out or why this was a big deal in comparison other situations like this that had risen, including the Diablo 3 map in WarCraft 3 that was very nicely done.

Didn't they even get all bent out of shape about Legacy of the Confederation, eventually saying it should be called a "mod" instead of a "campaign" (even though Starcraft has included a Campaign editor?)

No, I think they said they had to put "fan" or unofficial, something like that. But yeah, they did get out those projects. I know the SC>WC3 mod had issues because they were creating content to reference of an unreleased game, which they then changed it to SC>WC, but still couldn't get out of the fire. If memory serves, that is.
