Is anyone here familiar with this toolset?

I actually forgot it existed, thanks for reminding me to try it out. Unity was a bit too complicated to me, so I don't have my hopes high.

I am probably setting myself up for big pain but if I can get the same content I was getting into sc2 into the UDK I would drop all mod-related project concepts except for maybe 2042.

Buuut this is totally uncharted territory and as far as I have been able to figure out there isn't a single person in our community who can offer even the slightest guiding hand in my pocket.

So this is pretty much uncharted territory wholly and utterly and if I am to attempt this I am looking at what will ultimately go into a struggle that will last the rest of my life for how little much there is left to be experienced. I want to know if this is worth that effort, or if someone as mentally deranged as me has any hope of understanding something this enormous on his own.

You would be better going to a specialized game making forum.

That said, maybe you could go "baby steps" and maybe start with getting the grasp of Unity, which despite being different from UDK, it might help giving the basics so you can afterwards bravely step forwards something bgger. The learning curve will be steep either way, so just be stubborn at it and dont give up fast.

Take in consideration that you will really need to learn scripting and such. I say this becuase I remember that for some reason you avoided learning jass or smth.

might help:

JASS was just a mess and not something I wanted to get into. I read a little but about uscript a long time ago and back then understood the very basics of OO programming but had never actually attempted anything.

Since everything in the UDK revolves around Uscript I will absolutely must have to learn it, or at least a basic understanding of it, to get any of my basic concepts into the engine.

It's a matter of dedication and devotion and I have proven to myself thus far that I simply don't have the capacity to keep either strong for any longer than a few days. Something enormous will have to happen to push me head and actually get something tangible here. But if I did manage to do it, perhaps I would finally be at the precipice of doing something worthy of remembrance for a change.
