StarCraft: Knights

I usually don't do PR for other people, but I really want to help this project, as it seems too awesome to go unnoticed. Basically, it is intended to be some kind of fan-made prequel to Wings of Liberty, starring the Knights of Freedom, a paramilitary faction lead by SC1's former Magistrate, in their struggle against the Dominion.

The first few (extremely early alpha) screens look promising enough, and he's now looking for help.

Do you know how to contact this guy? I'd be interested in doing some writing for this campaign, but I don't want to have to join ModDB just so I can send one PM.

Afraid I don't. But hey, it's easy and free to register on ModDB, plus you'll be able to track this mod. And you never know when being a ModDB member could come in handy. Don't let that formality deter you from helping the guy, I say.

been a moddb member since the site first started gaining trolls and it's never come in handy but eh

As for the campaign, nothing interesting on his moddb profile yet, just the existing campaign assets and some modified text. I'll reserve any opinions until I see something show up that's his work from scratch. Seeing as he's asking for every possible position of development a campaign can have I don't expect much any time soon.

But then again, it seems he's willing to throw around money, and I guess that's all it takes these days.

I wonder what he means by this, though.
Miscallaneous: Need someone to create the game client.
I mean, Starcraft 2 is already the client, right...?

I directed the guy to this forum. Hopefully, he'll drop by soon and you'll be able to provide him with insight.

It's nice to see more people working on campaigns for SC2. Good on him! His story idea sounds interesting, so I'm curious to see what comes of it.

You won't be able to have a new client. Blizzard monitors RAM and mpq modifications. Making a new client in the manner you suggests sounds not only like a great way to get banned but also an incredibly difficult process to do.

My suggestion would be to take ricky's idea (that I am going to employ in my project as well, which will no doubt easily surpass multi-gb in size) and use that instead. You basically run a "menu" or starter map or whatever and use that as a way to load maps with the load next map feature. They maps aren't published to begin with, the menu map is loaded with the test map feature in the editor.

Yes it's clumsy but that's starcraft 2 for you.

I haven't played about with mapcraft so I can't tell you how viable it'd be. :\

Hey Chriso! Glad you could join us.

So, regarding mapmaking, what do you think of my proposition? Would you like me to help you with terraining?

The simplest answer at the moment is to have players open the map in the editor and 'test' it.

To my understanding you can't currently link maps properly, it's simply a matter of waiting.

Ricky was telling me he had tested his method and it worked so... *shrug*
