Thoughts? I'm skeptical. Too many of his roles are comedic. Cap is a very serious character. Plus, I won't be able to look at him without thinking Human Torch.

I'd of hoped for a more mature character.

Yea, I don't want to see that horrible Human Torch from the Fantastic Four movies portraying what was one of the cooler super soldiers around. I mean, he fought with Wolverine against the Nazis!

Wait, if he's both the Human Torch and Captain America, what's going to happen when they make the inevitable Marvel super-crossover movie?

To answer this, Marvel has been planning on rebooting both the Fantastic 4 and the Silver Surfer for some time, but they haven't made any motions towards that. Reassigning Chris Evans into a different role is just sort of their official statement, along with the Spider-Man reboot, that things are going to change in the Marvel film industry. More well-linked films, new faces, new stories, and a greater sense of the "Marvel Universe" as opposed to just "Marvel."

Too many reboots.

Yeah, but I agree with doing one for Spider-Man. Spider-Man 3 broke the whole series and turned it into an emotional wreck. I wanna see one stick more to the comic book, like the death of Gwen Stacy and have Eddie Brock/Venom not be a pussy. Venom is my favorite supervillain ever and they ruined him. Plus, seeing Carnage sometime would be cool.

Yeah- But that movie just came out recently. How long was the break for Batman? Comparison.

Back-to-back rewrites are getting pretty common.  Look at two recent Hulk movies, the second of which completely ignores the first.

The difference being that The Fantastic Four was, iirc, a commercially successful film, unlike the first recent hulk movie.
It wasn't because the Fantastic 4 movies were bad that they wanted a reboot. It's that the sequel, despite being better than the first, did poorly because the first one wasn't well-liked. Marvel wants to start it fresh so they can got the bad taste of the old ones out of their mouths and hopefully do better the second time around.

The rewrites thing isn't uncommon, true, but not all of them are warranted, IMO. The Hulk reboot was certainly worthwhile because Ang Lee can't direct an action movie for his life, nor should Marvel have expected him to. The first Punisher movie, however, was actually pretty good. The action in Punisher: War Zone was a lot better, but the script was idiotic. If they can just find a good balance between the writing of the first one and the action of the second one, they could do really well with it.
