I should have done this long ago...

Hi all! I don't know if this is the most accurate forum for this topic. Anyway, I want to express my thoughts about myself to you. I decided to take a long break. You can see it by my relative inactivity in those past months. I wanted to thought about my past, present and future projects, and I have thought that the best way to make myself feel better is to tell the world my own thoughts.
As you may know, many projects have been announced by this account. Many promising, beautiful, yet ambitious projects. And is that ambition what killed them. And you know? I'm just tired of it. I always wanted to do something big, but I wanted to do it from scratch, without no experience backing me. And well, even without experience, I managed to make some decent work. But too much ambition became too much for me, and I became tired of working on them. And so on, my projects were cancelled one by one. But from the darkness I see the light, since this has teach me a valuable leasson. So, if I ever work in SC modding again, I will start right from zero. Doing little yet functional things, rather than big ones that will never get finished.
So, this is not just a way to 'redeem myself' (so to speak). This post has another purpose too: to warn others, and to prevent them from repeating the same mistakes I did. It is good to fight for your dreams, but never ever let your ambition cloud your thoughts. If you have a dream, you must fight for it from the beginning. Learn from your own experience as you progress on it. Don't ever attempt to become a giant if you don't have strong legs to bear up your own weight.
I think this is all. I beg for the pardon of those who wanted to play my never finished campaigns. I believe I should have learned this long time ago, but well, better late than never doesn't it? Thanks to all those of you who have read this post. Even if you find it meaningless. Even if you find it stupid. Even if you are one of those giants with strong legs. In any case, it means a lot, seriously.
Sincere regards and Happy Easter to all of you!

Good post.
Ambitious projects are very difficult to see through to their conclusion. I've had many of these over the years, and I'm only about to finish one of them.
Creating a big campaign of high quality is no small task. Personally, I've tried 3 times to create a full length campaign and after 11+ years of off and on failures, I'm on the brink of releasing my first campaign (or map for that matter), with this particular try spanning roughly 6 months of work.
Be that as a warning to aspiring campaign authors: if you want to create a big campaign, be prepared for an immense amount of work.

Well, I'll do my best but I9 wouldn't count with it anyway. I've to remake the entire script to make it a more fun and interesting story. That means changing some characters, triggers and even some of the plot if necessary. And that for 30 missions. I've new projects in mind too, so perhaps it'd be a better idea to look after those instead looking back to the past.
Anyway, it's something I should consider. Perhaps I'll finish YoF someday, I don't know.

I still think you probably have the most natural knack for making traditional campaign missions that actually have progressive difficulty and are enjoyable in terms of maximizing the basic gameplay.
Thank you.

In any case, I still think it'd be a better idea to start right from zero instead to returning to old, too ambitious projects.

I'm the one who thought that letting a cat to drive a car would be a good idea...

Dude.
I think the most important thing to remember is that this is a videogame.
Dreams have got nothing to do with it. :p

I mean about mapping and modding. Seeing other's work makes you dream about how would it be, how would you feel if you were able to make a map, campaign or mod by yourself. I know it's just a videogame. It's just that I'm tired of the frustation I feel when I'm unable to get a campaign finished, and that this frustation is fruit from a person's wish to achieve more he's able to (I should note that I'm not limiting this to just this or any other videogame. Many people have this problem in real life. I just want to do something about it

).

Nono, I mean, you're talking like you're a regular here, but I don't even know who you are...
I dunno, it's sorta like walking up to someone on the street and telling them your hopes and dreams... By all means, go ahead and do it, but don't expect other people not to say "Wait, who the hell are you?"
This is like E/N + Starcraft....

I think it's more the fact that this is something most older members here already know and take for granted. "Go big or go home" is a pretty common pitfall. I guess people need to experience it first-hand before they can understand.

He has over 500 posts in this iteration of the boards, you have less than 400.
So, perhaps I should ask:
Who are you again, Negi?
As for post counts, they do prove something--there are posts.
Okay! ^_~

Clearly the message if this thread has been skewed into a downward spiral of identity crises and the meaning of numbers. I believe we should talk more about this:
Does anyone else see the problem in this? We have put a cat with a vendetta against canines behind the wheel of a vehicle, their greatest weakness! There is no telling how much carnage this feline will cause with such assets at its disposal! Who will be next? My dog? Your dog? THIS DOGG?!?!

That's a double-hate crime right there!
In all seriousness, though, I have also experienced omega's problem. And, as Mucky says, it really is something that one must experience for oneself before they can truly appreciate how limited they really are. Anyone can come up with ideas and put them on paper. That takes nothing. The real challenge is making your ideas come to life and that isn't as easy. It's hard work and you often find that your ideas outweigh the tools and skills at your disposal. You can get better over time, but never will making "that one great campaign" be any easier.

Censorship at its most inconsistent.
And since apparently Negi thinks that every post requires that the poster include a full C.V. and background check, I'm still wondering where his "WHO I AM" post is.
As for post counts, they do prove something--there are posts. Over 500 of them. There's also a search function. Have a question? Maybe you could try using it.
Whoa, are you going to beat me up?!?!?! OVER THE INTERNET?!?!?!
