Campaign Creations

Since I liked IskatuMesk's voice demo so much, I wanted to make my own voice test youtube file thing.

The following is a video showcasing a couple of sound samples I recorded for Dark Swarm Special Edition last summer. Needless to say, the SE never saw the light of day, but I had finished the mod, the first four maps and recorded all of the briefing and in-game dialogue. Eventually, after weeks of working on the special edition - which was in fact a complete revamp of the old campaign, I used to refer to it as "Dark Swarm: The Real One" - I lost all motivation and discontinued the process. (I only had about two maps to go, can you believe it?!)

The maps were ten times better than the ones in the original Dark Swarm campaign, and I had also managed to completely reinvent the voices for the majority of the characters. As betatester, thebrowncloud provided me with invaluable advice on how to improve gameplay and story. He had pretty much become my co-producer.

I'm not sure that I will ever revisit Dark Swarm, but I have to say I really enjoyed working on it, so I may come back to it in some fashion for Starcraft 2. If enough would absolutely like to play the campaign (albeit an unfinished product), I'll find a way to host the maps and make them available for download. Since I don't think anybody's playing Starcraft in that way anymore, it's probably not going to happen. I just thought I'd let you know.

Two missions to go?  I can believe that.  I'd throw you a 'You can do it, Legion!', but I've had campaigns end that way too so I know the feeling.  Given any thought to releasing what you've got so far anyway?

Well, yeah, like I said, if people want to play it (which I honestly doubt, I mean, it's a campaign and absolutely nothing else) then I'll upload it.

Why don't you just do what Desler did and release it with a synopsis?

Because I don't have that. All I have is 4 completely playable mission but no ending to the story. Hardly the stuff people want to spend time on.

I like, especially the Xel`Naga voice.

I could release some of the edited variants I made from the voices you did for 2042 if you want. I also have some Lav did... and one or two I did. I chose not to release them since it was a private project that got corrupted and all.

Love to hear 'em sometime! Your vocal/editing skills have always been part of my education. I remember studying Imrian for days.

God, I miss working on this thing.... I'll make you port it to SC2, Legion. No way am I letting you let this project die! We came too close!
