I don't know, but for some reason the final battle didn't feel as epic as the battle with Queen Arcadia in book 2....

I suspect part of your problem is the endgame is separated into seven different battles.

But, in any case, for me the climax of the story peaked at the end of Book 5 with the 5-part battle.

I think it's the build-up, along with the many characters that are involved in the actual battle. Basically right at the beginning of book 2 you know that the final boss of the book is going to be Queen Arcadia, so while playing every level you anticipate fighting her, while in book 6 I guess you expect to fight Darm as the last boss...but then you fight Razlia, so it's kinda weird...

Hmm... my 2 cents on this

The number of characters you can use is a factor that makes Book 6's final battle lacking but I also think it's the fact that you built the characters for Book 1/2 over the process of 2 books, giving them tomes and the best items you can find, building up their levels etc.

As for Book 6 you usually just meet them once and try your very best to scrap together tiny pickings which the levels have.

Also I kind of expected to use all 6 Dragon Priests for the last battle instead of having Hikaru/Kurumi sit it out.

The battle is actually set so the number of Heroes helping out depends on the game difficulty. In Hard mode Shizuka fights by herself.
