StarEdit Question

Just out of curiosity... has anyone ever figured a way around the string limit, or is it still there? If I recall, it was 1024... which seemed a lot at first... but wasn't.

The 1024 limit is just arbitrary; I don't know why they used it. Starcraft itself can use more, IIRC. The format for the strings is the same as a tbl file for Starcraft.

Do you mean you can change it, with some editing?

Yeah, they never updated StarEdit for OS X, so if I'm even going to use it, it'll have to be on Windows anyway. I'm just asking out of curiosity to see if anything's changed.

Use the X-tra Editor or SCM Draft 2.. I'm not sure of their capabilties in terms of string limits though.

Editors that don't use StarEdit might not have the limitation. If they do, it is probably to make the maps compatible with StarEdit, though. I don't really know whether StarEdit compatibility would have been a consideration either. If not, then they likely wouldn't have the limit.

I use both mac and windows. I am quite pissed that they carbonized the game but not the editor. Surely that's not more difficult than carbonizing the game itself.
