Battle.net

Right, I discovered today that it is possible to buy SC from the blizzard site directly. Of course, having always wanted to own the game legally instead of relying on lebanese piracy CDs as I have been forced to do for the past 8 or so years, I bought SC without any hesitation. Now,.... battle.net.... like how does it work? What are these gateway thingies? How can you add people to your friends list? like, someone give me the rundown, its all confusing to me.

The Gateways are the different servers that Blizzard uses for the game.  They're usually defined by zone (USEast for eastern US and Canada, for example), but you log-on to whatever gateway you want really.  Go where your friends are.

/f add playername will add someone to your friends list.  Just put their name where I wrote playername.
/f l will list what all your friends are doing (online, in a game, in a channel, offline, whatever).
/f m will send a message to everyone on your friends list.

Do you have to make a different account for each gateway? Because I joined the euro gateway, made an account, tried to go into the US west gateway and couldn't log in...

Yep, it's a different account on each gateway.

If you always wanted to get the legal version... the battlechest has been in stores forever, and in the top sold games lately.

Somehow it strikes me that if you can buy a digital copy online you got the means to get a hardcopy imported. :P Then again it could be seen as some kind of addictive stuff. :)

I don't think they have it in norway, at least didn't manage to find it. As for lebanon, legit game CDs don't exist there.

Holy crap, you're the guy who made the downgrader thingy. Dude, thanks for the tool, its a lifesaver! Thanks to it, I've managed to merge all my starcraft installations into 1 and throw all my old fake CDs in the garbage.

Nope, I didn't make that.  I did however make a no-cd patcher, intended for versions older than 1.15.2, which is basically necessary for using older versions with the version of SC/BW that you download from Blizzard instead of using a CD.

I stand corrected. Importing might have been to much trouble.

Hmmm well the downgrader must contain the patches then because I'm able to run all downgraded versions of SC after using the app.

Chis: ShadowFlare is a girl.

And yes the tool is very useful for playing older versions! Very useful indeed :)
