{DF} Bloodymire

Post by IskatuMesk »

The legend of Bloodymire, as told by Sir Edward Newton.

It was a cold, rainy day in my hut when the King barged in, slinking aids in tow, screaming something about a wasteland that needed plundering. "Yae the best man for the job!" he exclaimed, and handed me a single piece of paper with directions and instructions scribbled on it with child-like illiteracy.

So it began.

Year 301, Early Spring

The lads and I finally arrived to the land of promise, the land of opportunity, the land of hope and salvation.

Not much to look at, if ye ask me...

Let'see what... err..
[imgwh 640x209]http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/9738/bm00.jpg[/imgwh]

Before I could react, the savages were upon us! Yet, just as quickly as they came, our dogs set upon their boney forms and tore them apart.

I have a sinking feeling about this place... Without any real mountains for miles, my lads will have to dig into a small incline in the northwest, far from our camp. I want to get out of this hellhole as soon as possible and into somewhere safe from whatever unspeakable horrors still remain in the shadows...

[imgwh 640x409]http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/4343/bm03.jpg[/imgwh]

Nothing like home. I'm worried about the huge ledge overlooking our entrance. Hoping to store everything inside the base as we acquire it. Wood, berries, everything. I can feel eyes on me... everywhere... watching... waiting...

[imgwh 640x410]http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/4560/bm04.jpg[/imgwh]

Soon my fears are realized as screams are heard over the plains. The skeletal groundhogs have unleashed a siege of biblical proportions! My lads prepare themselves for the onslaught by running away in terror.

11th Slate, 301

The Groundhogs so far have yet to make a move besides terrorize passer-byers. Seems assigning some of our war hounds to one of our workers has scared them off... for now. Working on getting our base operational so we can move everything into it. There's no river to speak of, but there is plenty of ponds out there. Probably soiled in groundhog droppings.

13th Felsite, late Spring

Intensified our mining operations... just about ready to ditch the wagon for good. Set up two rickety beds for the lads; it'll have to do for now. Looks like there's an aquifer right underneath us, separating us from the squishy insides of the earth. The going will be tough.

10th Hematite

Dear god, the groundhogs!
[imgwh 640x663]http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/1808/bm09p.jpg[/imgwh]

16th Hematite

Our fisherman, Robert, continues running for his life as the skeletal groundhogs give chase.
[imgwh 640x652]http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/4158/bm10e.jpg[/imgwh]

18 Hematite

Robert continues to flee, with the skeletal groundhog hot on his heels! He's run so far away from the camp that he's actually reached the magma pipe almost all the way across the map. Prepare for a final duel on the backdrop of a volcano with a princess in tethers for sacrifice.

5h Malachite

Robert finally returns home with no sign of the groundhog, probably left meandering on the eastern sector of the map. I've ordered the construction of the Bukkake Byway, a massive tunnel that will bring us to the magma pipe. We'll dig right next to it, through the obsidian, to reach the terrain below the aquifer.

10th Malachite

A fire imp has been spotted meandering on the surface!

16th Malachite

Startling news for a city in the middle of hell's anus!
[imgwh 640x19]http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/5805/bm13.jpg[/imgwh]

28th Malachite

Bukkake byway is slowing reaching completion, but danger lurks behind every corner. Spotted a pack of skeletal wolves heading towards the base!
[imgwh 566x421]http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/5848/bm14.jpg[/imgwh]

24 Galena

The wolves left just short of our home, leaving us in peace. Robert decides he needs more excitement in his life and plays with the groundhogs some more.

12th Limestone

We have no trade port yet, so unfortunately the caravan has missed us. Also, everyone is starving to death. But we finally reached the magma pipe! Problem: the cavern below the big one is tiny and we can't tunnel through it. FUCK
[imgwh 640x479]http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/3497/bm16.jpg[/imgwh]

Okay. This isn't going to work out. I'll have to pick another site, preferably one with some bush and no two level aquifer.

THERE'S ONLY ONE THING LEFT TO DO
