SC Recording software

Well, Growler Guncam finally decided it would not work anymore. Reinstall, fuck with settings, whatever. It just lags when I record starcraft now. Just like fraps. Camstudio doesn't even work. Camtasia desyncs audio and gives horrible video quality.

Is there any other options for recording Starcraft? Remember, SC is software rendering. Not directX, like 3d games. Many applications won't work just because of that.

Hypercam also lags like crazy.

Camtasia is also lagging now. Wtf is going on?

xfire has a capture feature that I tried out and it worked alright (it made in game look wierd though). The only thing that looks weird is the water.

Xfire also breaks a ton of games and does a lot of weird shit I'd rather not get involved with.

Fraps doesn't work on many computers when associated with starcraft. I've heard that it has to do with AMD processors (apparently it works fine on intel processors) but haven't seen any substantial evidence to support that. In any case, fraps doesn't work for me. It lags monstrously bad in starcraft. Works fine for almost everything else though.

My research tells me growler guncam was my only option. Reinstalling, dicking with the settings ect has not fixed it at all. It was working fine a week or so ago. Aaaargh. I hate computers.

If I knew how to do video encoding in a program, I could probably make something to record Starcraft, but I don't know how to use any of that stuff. :P

Just had Shadow make something that will screenshot the game every frame and then you compile it with a compiling software that recognizes a sequence of files. =P

That would probably lag just as much. Plus, I'd want to retain audio. This isn't just for mod stuff, but for VOD's as well.

Those programs might work if you were using Vista.  I think I read somewhere that Vista just uses Direct3D in its implementation for DirectDraw (which I think Starcraft uses).

Latest version of Fraps made a world of a difference compared to older versions.. I do have an AMD computer (Phenom X4) and older Fraps gave me like 5-10 fps in-game (despite trying to record at 30 fps) while newer Fraps version gave me full speed.

It's even in their changelog that it works a lot better in cases that previously had lots of trouble.

To me, it even works with HMM3 (another game that is a royal pain to record) minus the unofficial WoG expansion's features (due to their "external" windows overlayed on HMM3's interface.

EDIT : I use Windows XP 32 bits. Always did, probably never will touch Vista again.

I tried it on Vista and FRAPS will cap its recording at speed at 20fps regardless what its actually set to but theres no lag at all recording and the video itself is fine, not recording FRAPS shows it going at 200-300fps.

But is this the old version of the new version?

Mesk, did you change anything that affect graphics somehow lately? It could be your graphic card drivers, DirectX (including a runtime update), graphic options, etc. etc.
