Whose watching this and did you read the comic book? Thoughts on depiction of characters compared to comic?

1980's comic. I haven't heard those complaints- But I have heard the creator of Watchmen (who legally sold the rights to his material, thus no longer making it his) is bitching that the movie is being released. Probably because he is credited no where in the movie.

Alan Moore always bitches about movies made from his material. Hell, it'd be news if he DIDN'T.

Going tomorrow to a local premiere. Not read the graphic novel, but in the company of people that have.

I've never heard of it until now, I think it could be a pretty good movie.
Doctor Manhattan looks pretty darned awesome, he glows, is blue and has superpowers.
Kinda like Captain Planet.

Moore didn't want his name on it.

Oh, right, he didn't- He thought it was a disgrace to his comic. Moore.. The guy who didn't know that The Dark Knight's Joker was based on The Dark Knight comic.

Well I have seen it. It was interesting. Pretty gross at points.

Moore has never liked any movie made from any work anytime ever. He hated V for Vendetta, which was based on his.
I'm gonna see it tonight with my friends. I don't expect it to match the comic, but so what. Haven't seen a movie with going to for a while now. IT IS TIME

I just went to a midnight showing at an Imax theatre. I actually really enjoyed it.
It's one of the better comic book movies I've seen, for the same reason that I liked Sin City: They actively tried to stay true to the source material. Sure, there were some discrepancies, but they didn't try to re-write the thing. Most of the lines were lifted directly out of the book. The ending was the most dramatic difference, but it achieved exactly the same effect as in the book.
Overall, in comparison to the book, does it hold up? No, of course not. It's a movie for crying out loud. But as far as how it holds up to other movies, it certainly stands out as exceptionally good.

He's also the same Moore who wrote the best Batman comic ever (The Killing Joke).
Clearly, movies - or at least movies based on comics - aren't his stuff.
I'm looking forward to seeing it, as Watchmen is by far the best graphic novel of all time, IMHO. It's impossible to expect anything as good as the comic, but this movie BETTER BE GOOD or I'm dressing up as Rorschach and start messing with people's fingers.
