MAFIA IX - Terran/Zerg Mafia! FINISHED
Posted: Sat Jan 03, 2009 1:06 am
AA7 was going to host the next mafia variant, but he asked me to do so in his stead due to family issues. So I have come up with a TERRAN/ZERG MAFIA. It's just a generic variant with custom roles, but there will be only one round (no three-round crap like Protoss Mafia), and there will be a few different rules.
This game will be much slower paced than most games. No time limits for day actions, though I ask that anyone who plays posts at least once every 72 hours. If you can't do this, don't play; if you think you can, but it turns out you can't, let me know ahead of time so I can account for it. If you have to drop out, I can ask for replacements. Anyway...
TERRAN/ZERG MAFIA
There are 12 terrans in...a place. But three of them are INFESTED by the nefarious zerg. I can't be bothered to think up a neat storyline like protoss mafia. Tough luck.
ROLES
ZERG
The three infested terrans consult together for night kills (they kill one player per night). They can also talk secretly during the day, because zerg are awesome like that. Each one has an additional power beyond the group night kill.
1 Broodling Spawner. When the zerg kill someone at night, the broodling spawner can choose to have a broodling spawn. The broodling appears for the duration of the day round, and gets one vote, which is decided upon in secret by the zerg players.
1 Parasite dude. At night, the parasite dude can infect a player with a parasite. The parasite allows them to see where the infected player is going (i.e. if they're performing an action on someone). They won't learn what action is being performed, only whether or not an action is being performed, and on whom. Parasites on one night don't go into effect until the following night. However, when the parasites are in use, the Zerg get to learn parasite information before choosing any of their targets.
1 Ensnare dude. The zerg can ensnare a player at night, which prevents them from doing night actions. This does not affect players with day actions (Marine, Firebat).
TERRAN
3 Civilians - Generic villager. Doesn't do anything except vote.
1 SCV - The SCV can scout a player to see if any night action is being performed on that player.
1 Marine - The marine can shoot someone during the day. He can only do this once, and he does it by announcing "shoot so-and-so." When he does this, it will of course be clear he's the Marine and therefore innocent.
1 Firebat - The firebat can kill broodlings. He can do this whenever he wants, by announcing "kill broodling" or somesuch nonsense. This of course reveals him as the firebat, and as an innocent.
1 Medic - The medic can inject someone with restorative fluids, which protects them from being ensared, broodlinged, or parasited. It also removes existing parasites.
1 Ghost - The ghost's psychic power lets him probe a player's mind and learn whether or not he's infested, during the night. (Basically, detective.) He doesn't learn the full role, only alignment.
1 Science Vessel - The science vessel can cast defensive matrix on a player (not himself) to protect that player from death. (Basically, doctor.)
VOTING SYSTEM
Voting will be completely different from previous games. You can CHANGE YOUR VOTE or UNVOTE AT ANY TIME (but please say "change vote" or "unvote" when changing), but keep all voting decisions in boldface, or they WILL NOT BE COUNTED. As soon as one player has more than 50% of the votes, that player is immediately lynched and night falls. For instance, on the first day, with 12 alive, 7 votes will warrant a lynch. Broodlings will affect this number, but it will always be JUST OVER HALF of the total votes. I'll state right now that I WILL NOT END THE GAME until one side is completely wiped out. Let's play it all the way out. Oh, and there's no abstaining or voting no-lynch or anything.
TIMING
There's no time limit to daytime. It goes on until someone receives a majority vote. I'll allow 72 hours for nighttime. Let's take it nice and slow.
DEATH REVEALS
When a player dies, it will be PUBLICLY REVEALED what his role was, as well as whether or not he was infected with a parasite.
DON'T BE A DOUCHE.
No private communication with other players about the game, unless you're zerg talking to zerg. Don't quote PMs (though I'll try to make this foolproof). Don't post after you die, even to say "AW PEAS." You're considered dead as soon as you die at night, have a majority vote against you (even if I haven't posted yet), or get shot by the Marine. DON'T EDIT YOUR POSTS. If you need to change something, just double post.
So, there it is. SIGN UP! We'll start as soon as we have TWELVE PLAYERS. Please read the rules before signing up. GOGOGO!
