Seems there is a Tera Open Beta between Friday April 20th (19th for preorders) and Monday April 23th.

To download the client in advance (seems to be a considerable 25 GB) ...

In short :
1) Go to their site, make a new account + confirm account by e-mail
2) Log into account, click "Enter Code"
3) As the code, it's TERABETA

Personally, while I don't intend to play a P2P game when it will be released (then having to pay per month), I guess ill download it and try it for the heck of it.

How is the gameplay compared to other MMOs so far?

Most people I know equate it to monster hunter gameplay. Aiming where your attacks go actually matters since there isn't much of anything in the way of targeting. You point in the direction you want and you swing/shoot/whatever. I would suggest just trying out the open beta this weekend.

To start your TERA adventure:
1. Create your En Masse account at https://account.enmasse.com.
2. Use the “Enter Code” feature on the Account Overview page to type in your game code: TERABETA
3. Download TERA from the Account Overview page and install.
4. Play TERA!

The client installed is 25gb.

As an extra note, you would probably need 50 GB total at install. 25 GB for the downloaded stuff and 25 GB to install.

That can be quite important to avoid caught by surprise to have to try to free your HD at the last minute like it happened to me so that it fully install.

Perhaps, although I am one of those that tend to use most of their HD space down to like 4-8 GB left for long periods of time. Plus, for some people, 50 GB is considerable for those with limited means to transfer data away (if they don't want to delete stuff).
