L4D comes so close to having good weapons, too. It just doesn't present enough variation in the basic situation you might find yourself in, where the assault rifle is easily better than the hunting rifle. (autoshotty is comparable but sucks for anything but streetsweeping) And the Uzi chews through ammo way too fast.

Hercanic you realise that metalstorm is a massive waste and would only be good for area denial and other things do that much better. Also you realise that the 3rd and 4th videos are just .22s with match triggers.

Metalstorm is a good example of people who designed something kind of cool and took it in totally the wrong direction. They could have made a killing with an industrial application.

The only reason you speak about the latter is because right now you are either using the assault rifle or the hunting rifle, both of which operate virtually the same gameplay-wise, for literally the entire game. In finalles or close maps you then use the auto shotty. Okay, so you've got range and close up covered. What else could you want, right?
Well, these weapons are kind of retarded. The assault rifle has a 50 round magazine, is extremely accurate, and does monstrous damage on its own. The only difference it has from the hunting rifle is penetration, which makes up for the smaller 15 round magazine, and a faster firing rate. Other then that, you pretty much use them the exact same way. I've never once needed to use the scope. It's not a sniping weapon, it's a hall sweeper.
The shotgun is more balanced in that it's fairly useless in the larger maps at a range.
So, the answer, other than giving players an incredibly powerful all-around weapon, is to nerf the accuracy of the assault rifle at a range, stop decking out every single player with t2 weapons on the second map of a campaign, and add some variety. Right now pistols are fairly weak in Expert because they don't really have any stopping power. A revolver as an alternative would be a weapon with greater stopping power, perhaps a little bit of penetration, smaller clip, and can only be wielded one at a time. Uh oh, variety! Keep your CS faggotry out of the game! Suddenly, it's a crime to offer players alternatives to keep the game interesting!
MP5 would be kind of a tier 1.5 weapon, before you find t2 which would preferably be later on in the campaign. Not as much power as the assault rifle, but more ammo than the Uzi. Ect.... And no, you don't find piles of them - you find a single one, just like pills.
Map design is a brilliant thing when you use it.
(The best part is that I can justify every single weapon I posted)

I wish there were more tiers of weapon so there was some visual variety, and there were different types of weapons. Hell having you start off a canpaign with the pump shotty, uzi and say a semi auto rifle would make the game a lot more interesting, and then have those three roles fulfilled differently as the campaign progresses. Also the autoshotty and M16 shouldn't be the second tier and should be a third or fourth. l4d as it stands feels unfinished in a lot of ways and a lot of that comes from a lack of variety iin enemies and weapons.

The weapons are also a reward for living. If you die after that point and get found again, you have a chance to start off with an uzi or just a single pistol or something. Going backwards to retrieve them may trigger a horde. In addition, sometimes you WILL find a weapon lying around, and I don't mean from one of your guys dying, besides a pistol.
Having swords and axes and shit is retarded, that detracts from the intended gameplay. You are supposed to keep zombies away not fucking charge into a horde of them, that is why you have a push-away action. Mid-close range is the shotgun anyway.
They already have a minigun in the game. They already have a pistol. They already have an assault rifle. Railguns, rocket launchers, and all that other retarded shit don't belong in a survival game about civilians fighting zombie hordes.
You just want this game designed for your own playstyle, but the devs had their own ideas and executed them very well. The game is fun as it is, adding more weapons isn't going to add to the gameplay. If you want all this crazy weapon shit that doesn't fit in, go play that shitty gmod scenario that chris was talking about.

I'd love to know how you found the time in your "super busy schedule" to discover something that none of us have seen through god knows how many runs on Expert, Advanced, and Versus. Every time we find weapons, it's either a t2 table to deck us out, or a dual pistol to deck us out.
