Actually, Inuyasha7 is correct.  Lavarinth's avatar does appear to look more like the Sabretooth Fish than it does a dog.

all that stuf is controlled by the head. Aside from the head, the rest of the body is simple. If given perfect blood, the brain will survive and the dog's head should still be active. Anyway, this is a glimpse into the far future. Sadly, none of us will live to see the day when people's heads are preserved in glasses, but we may be able to see people being revived from the dead.

You need blood pumping chris, that is why you would need a heart. without the heart the brain is then useless.

How do you keep the dog alive without the head?  Maybe constantly shock the dogs heart.  But the head won't last long without the dog.
