I think segment 10 should have some incredible bugs in it. Definitely hunted level. One of them is completely reproduceable and forces a game reload. It is pretty obvious this game was never tested by this point, and they're recycling like half the content from the first game.

Also I get lost on some really basic puzzles again. T.T

A new AWP is available. I give a short (spoiler-free) review of what I had experienced in Darksiders 2 to that stage. The most severe of the bugs I have yet to encounter awaited me after that recording.

Darksiders 2 finished recording.

I thought I had seen everything at the end of seg 10. I was wrong. The game had one more super massive clusterfuck to show off.

Darksiders 2, an adventure through a deranged THQ diarrhea stain, is now available. A play built for the patient scientist, extensive time is taken to fail at easy puzzles and discover exceedingly severe bugs. However, the game itself is the one to deliver the most insane of bugs, and slow times don't last for long as Death's trek through indie software often leads him to unbelievably fucked up everything. A rancid, sterile mess of intern puke.

Please tell me if segment 8 is busted or not. The FTP claimed it failed but the size is identical to the local file. I don't exactly want to waste my precious Canadian bandwidth and the many, many hours it takes to upload just to make sure if some single byte got changed from 6 to 9. (Edit: someone ran a md5 check for me and it was fine.)

I don't know what I will run next. Only time will tell.

Watching others play bad games is a special, valued experience.

Thank you.

Remember how I "solved" that 3tb external hard drive problem by splitting the partitions into a 2tb and a 1tb partition?

That 1tb partition is hosing every single file sent to it. Videos, music, everything gets mangled beyond words. Most shit just doesn't play or work anymore, but some videos are crazy fucked up and report like 30 hours of mangled audio.

I suspect the external enclosures are just REALLY bad at handling any kind of 3tb drive even though the manufacturer specs claim they can.

I am really screwed when it comes to the insane space requirements Retribution's production encodes are going to require. I calculated I'd need the entire full secondary 3tb external (the one that isn't hooked up atm). However, this new issue effectively rules out 2tb at the very best of circumstances, and at the worst, I really don't feel safe putting data on these drives until I figure out just what the fuck is going on.

All of the source files for the original BW recordings were stored on this drive. They are totally fucked and unusable.

/edit

After some fun I swapped all of the harddrives around. The BW videos seem to work fine when the drive is internal. Maybe it's just an issue with the firmware reading from 3tb disks? No clue. Some stuff is definitely hosed, though. Makes me wonder if all of this could have been avoided if I knew the enclosures were the issue to begin with. All of the data I lost... including all of my mod source data... could have been saved if the issue works like I think it does.

Oh well. Nothing I can do now.

Samael mystery explained:

And Lilith wondered where Samael has disappeared - it happens that he has mysteriously fallen through the worldspace in the past while fighting a horseman, and was never seen since..

Maybe he got stuck on a pixel and is hanging in a void of bad graphics ever since.. such a befitting, yet tragic end to a demon lord.

Edit: Im sad to see that outcome was not canon, would be nice touch to progress in the game through a bug.

Another note: Comparing this to the first game, I cannot believe it was made by the same team, it looks like they all got replaced with zombie lookalikes. The first game was not a masterpiece by any means, but it was made way more competently, had superior structure, flow, content, polish (albeit not a lot), everything.

Also, this game seems to be fixated on the number 3. Notice the first area of the game, is called Tri-Stone. Yes.
My theory is that the team got replaced with satanic number 3 worshipping zombie lookalikes.

I will never be able to think of this game and not think of that Samael bug.

A new League compilation is available in the compilations section, showcasing that this game, just like WoW and every other f2p/mmo, is infested with botters. There's also a bunch of other silly stuff as usual. Enjoy the Persian techno.

Hello fellers, it's time to look ahead to 2014. I posted a CC blog and a Coffee Hour 14 that covers some 2014 projections, and I've updated the LP 2014 projections as well. But here it is in a big wad of text in plain sight if you're curious.

Right now and for a short while I intend to do nothing and rest. As I've said, I'm hoping to make big progress on Retribution in the coming year. I'd also like to get more LP's done. A good goal would be twice the number I got out this year. That's perfectly doable on a casual schedule, it's just I can't go for months without doing stuff. So, I really need to get my psychology under control so I can maintain positive spirits and keep out of depression. That's really what casting comes down to. I'm generally too depressed or tired to put on any kind of commentary, and I don't really play games outside of casting.

I am a bit tired of doing bad games, but there's still one major for sure bad game left to do - that Golden Axe game for the ps3. I don't know when I'll get to it, but probably not for a little while.

Currently, my high priority targets are Bayonetta, those Castlevania games, and Zelda Link to the past, which supposedly will infuriate me. Two other major upcomings are a secret project and the BW recast which waits on Mucky's availability.

I'm dropping the MGEC series for now. It was something I was mostly doing for myself, but the fact no one else watches them simply encourages me to devote edit energy elsewhere (notably the Ret dev series). The exception to this will be the 2042 recast I intend to do (HKS said he'd help with that?) Anyways, that's the only major public developer material I plan for the entirety of 2014. If you have a request, feel free to shoot it my way, but there hasn't been a peep about it so far.

I will continue to work on my Harry Potter music albums. I have a second album that will probably be finished in either January of February. I only post these on my blog.

If the UDK work goes very well, near the end of 2014 you might see a UDK demo trailer. If not, you won't see anything. I don't plan to release any more videos or posts about the project, but we'll see if anything happens. Coffee Hour 14 covered the only major subject I wanted to demonstrate, which was the revision process.

Unless there is any good suggestions for topics, the next coffee hour will be at the end of 2014.

I have an XXE that is about 1/4 done. HKS has sent me some very large video files I need to diligently sort through. I am, as always, vigilant for new material for either XXE or League of Legends. League of Legends will see continued game and compilation posts, but at an unpredictable rate.

I have an AWP we recorded before jewish zombie day that I have not yet edited because, to be quite honest, I am really lazy. But I'll see about getting it done in a day or two.

I hope to continue to refine both my encoding, my casting, and my ability to perform consistent work, as time passes. While 2013 wasn't the most active year of my life, I felt I kept a strong pace and managed to do most of the major titles I wanted to do. I got the DMC series done and did two emulated vintage games. I forced my way through two extremely bad games, wrapped up The Ball, and even recasted both Killzone 3 and Hunted. In the following year I hope to tackle some so-called good games, and will probably end up getting engulfed in another sea of awful elsewhere.

Stay tuned, because this mantrain has no brakes.

Nah, Zelda 3 : ALttP ain't that bad. Progression in that game is made rather well, you are rewarded with concrete and measurable stuff. Bosses are all manageable after you figure out the boss-gimmick, which may be frustrating in some cases.

It is a true predecesor for all the 3d Action RPGs that you played, except on (multiplanar) 2d and done so well.. well, it's rather good. Among my personal top10. It should be like a fart of (stale) fresh air from the past.

It was more in the context that I am terrible at puzzles, and the game is fairly puzzle heavy. That will definitely rustle some jimmies.

Ok, so... I've sat through Darksiders 2, 99% no skipping. What can I say? When I played it and did some science of my own (watching you in general raised my awareness of stupidity in games) back in the time around release - I thought that with "proper" attitude a person can make this game go places where no rod has come before. Boy, was I right... Funnily enough - I've quitted it no long before Samael (don't remember why, but does it matter?) and never came back to it. And seeing what was left I can say I'm a little bit sad that I didn't. But only a little. Throughout the game I always thought - why the heck am I playing this? I guess I've grown up in attitude since then cause now it's quite easy for me to quit those really bad games disregarding my completionist OCD. Due to that OCD I did lot of optional junk Darksiders 2 at the time. For example those throbbing rocks everywhere give you permanent buff if you meet an NPC who tells you about them. Ironically - you shoot them with a pistol, but I guess not before you speak to that dude. And I was foolish enough to that SOUL Arbiter's Maze. The only interesting point about it was the boss at the end. I'd say he's the most difficult boss, plus you don't save in the maze. At some point I even ended up grinding for items in that Crucible arena (nothing interesting at all - you just fight hordes of pre-set waves. I guess at the end you fight the guy who runs it, but you can't go for that straight away. Overall it remind me of Arena in DMC4 - 100 waves, where Dante was at the end with all his ez-mode combos and no save throughout the entire thing). I actually have been judging game's length by the amount of waves unlocked in that arena. And so when I was in that demon place I thought there should be much more left than it was. Oh, well, whatever.

What I wanted to say that overall I quite enjoyed the cast. There were some moments where I was like "My Cthulhu, the derp is strong with this one", but it's easy to judge someone when you watch, so I 'd say it's not such a big of deal after all. Really liked parts where you've discussed why certain game aspects do not fit each other. Some minor drag here and there, as per usual, but nothing immediately worth complaining about. Overall I'd say this was very solid production.

I totally agree with your decision to turn to games which are not known to be terrible. In the beginning of watching Darksiders 2 I thought of two games with which you'd have sort of a positive experience. I didn't post it then cause I wanted to finish watching this LP before.

First of these games in Banjo Kazooie. Now I remember quite some time ago you've discussed this game. I personally think It can provide a good amount of decent examples and overall pleasing experience. It is neither obscenely inobvious or weird (like say some older stuff like Zork) nor it is casual. There is not much in terms of puzzles (and I mean actual puzzles) and it sets quite a reasonable mood. The overload of synthesized sounds can be bothersome to certain people, but that is a minor issue at most. Coming out of a barrage of awful games this can provide a valuable reset of pacing I think.

The other game is KotOR (one or both depending on the energy). You've mentioned that as consideration before as well. Now this game being very popular due to SW fanboy thematics has well-known issues (relevant for you might be certain difficulty in recording game's cutscenes, although most of them are not super important) and strong sides. For the LP purposes in it also provides both. Being the first Bioware RPG with a LOT of voicing (instead of seldom voicing in titles like BG 1/2) it will obviously add a lot to time spent in game overall, narrating a lot instead of the caster. Not necessarily a problem, but I think it poses certain difficulty in making a cast due to it. On the other hand there is this SW thematics which is as much casual overall as it is gives a tangible platform to talk extensively about fiction with something to compare to at least somewhat scale.

Now if you do go for that latter in the future - you may end up playing second parts as well. Which is both worse and better. Worse cause it suffered from the same publisher plague every game nowadays does (I strongly recommend playing it with certain restoration mods developed by fans of the game - which fix some horrible bugs and add some unused assets and content into the game - some people in your inner audience are bound to know what I'm talking about , but if not - you can contact me when (if) the time comes). Better cause of overall feel, which can be due to the fact of it wasn't Bioware's production, but Obsidian's.

But anyway, I've written enough words already. Hope you'll rejuvenate nicely in the coming days. Never give up, never surrender.

I played banjo kazooie in the past and I do intend to LP it again, but given the extremely sad state of n64 emulators, I'm going to hold off on n64 titles until a good one shows up. Apparently, Banjo Kazooie in particular can be unstable and downright completely unplayable on the current ones.

I have kotor, haven't played it yet. I've heard good things about it, it'll be something I eventually get to. I have a lot of long RPG's I'll one day do, including the Xenosaga series and FF13/12/10/6/whatever I feel like at the time.

I'm sure having played darksiders 2 previously, seeing my amazing ability to handle puzzles probably gave you heart burn.
