So, I'm in Korea. This is the top YouTube video of Korea. Even four-year-olds will sing this song, "heeeey sexy lady" in their tiny voices while doing their schoolwork. Apparently, the Gangnam region in Seoul has actually banned the video's dance, posting signs forbidding it, as they were having problems with people spontaneously breaking into the dance and holding up traffic.

I don't understand how that video became popular to begin with. There's like a million asian music videos that are silly. What makes this one special?

Catchy beat, standout phrases, participatory dance (eg. Macarena), fun and funny visuals, popping color palette, and irony. It's silly, but he's in the upscale Gangnam area (ie. the rich part of town) so it creates a humorously ironic contrast.

I still don't get it. Must be an Asian thing.
