We have completed Hunted recordings.

In light of the enormous file sizes and overall lower quality of the previous cast, I don't think I will bother finish processing the previous recording of this game. The new recording is really that much better. I also plan to release this new recording as half size due to the immense file sizes that this is putting out.

For those familiar with the game, we played this on the hardest available difficulty. Newgame+, old school, with no Sleg vats for the hard ending. We also busted this game in unimaginable ways.

Splendid !

The large file sizes are ok with me, unless they are far in excess of 2GB/1 hour; but understandable if you do this for bandwidth constraints.

I generally try to keep at least within 1gb/hour for major releases, but the fine details in the textures and the super high motion for this was a real nightmare for compression without the motion prediction settings I had spent an eternity setting up before I lost them all.

MadVR can also upscale the low res videos really, really well. There is definitely quality loss from the heavy compression I used, but not enough to really be detrimental.

I'm concerned less about my bandwidth and more about huge spikes of bandwidth coming from the FTP. I don't know how many downloads the average LP gets (if I were to guess I'd say I have <10 regular viewers) but if you multiply 10x5x4gb for the average release, that is a pretty big spike and I don't know what if any limits exist.

With the old Hunted recording, I was looking at something like 10x3gb segments after I had resized them.

A new AWP is out.

In other news, the Retribution script was largely finalized and I have begun my major VA takes on it. However, like my LP's, the project has suffered heavily from my uncontrollable sleep and exhaustion.

I have almost enough material to make my very first major League video, though it takes the smallest priority out of my projects currently. I am not sure if I will cast whole games or focus on compilations. I think I'll focus on compilations, or at least truncated casts, until I get more comfortable or unless I find something super silly all around. Luckily, V and Milldawg have provided some extremely amusing games.

I posted the one MGEC video I have ready in the MGEC thread. I don't know when I'll be able to get to work on the others. As a rule of thumb, development takes priority over discussing development.

I don't foresee any new Coffee Hours for a while as I haven't had enough content to really make an update cast about, nor have I figured out a new major topic yet. Likewise, I don't forsee another XXE for many months on behalf of not having any content.

I have verified 5 segments of Hunted out of an estimated 8. Out of all my casts, I think this is the most retarded thus far. Between the screaming and giggling this game breaks and snaps at the slightest provocation, we die for the silliest of reasons and trivialize many otherwise very difficult encounters. Some of the bugs are so sudden and unexpected, I guarantee even the most battlehardened of my vikings will be caught off guard.

Skimmed it. Seeing the same dumb AI, a lot of recycled sounds, and very broken echoes. I guess we'll see what release is like. I don't like watching reveals/demos because I know those are typically final products and they'll skew my opinion.

Also, they really need new monster design. I've seen enough fat, slow american "demons" for one game, much less two.

/edit

Just great. As it turns out, when Windows decided to set my mic volume to 0, it did it right before we did the last recordings for Hunted. You can still hear me due to the native volume of the mic, but sometimes my voice is rather easily dominated by the game sounds. I think due to the stereoscopic nature of the game audio that central channel extract might be able to help bring out my voice more (the same thing I tried to do in Battle Tanx but failed with), so I'll need some time to figure out a solution that doesn't overly butcher the audio.

Fuck, fuck, fuck. Why can't windows just leave shit alone.

/edit 2

As it turns out, CCE causes huge distortion in the audio. Ah well. It's only a few spots that are super bad. Might be different on different sound systems. Win some lose some, I guess...

/edit 3

If I'm lucky, it looks like only the first half of seg 7 is mangled so far.

/edit 4

Nope, seg 8 has problems too. What a weird, inconsistent pile of garbage.

Usually the audio quality of your casts is quite good even when you say in-cast that something's off (I have a good amp and speakers, makes small sounds clear and hearable).

Well, this isn't as bad as, say, the worst segments of Exigo. I'm really picky when it comes to audio balance.

/edit

I'm going to use the final Hunted segment as an experiment for some alterations in my video compression settings. The overall goal is to sacrifice encode speed for a much higher quality end product while retaining compression. This may also make playback a bit more expensive on crappy systems.

Hunted is now available. In this max-difficulty playthrough HKS and myself utterly demolish all sense of commercial development ethics and spend the entire time giggling and screaming as the world burns around us.

A new AWP is out. This is fairly short and sweet, discussing about indie developers, sins of a solar empire, Dwarf Fortress, RO2, and so on.

/edit

I am attempting a new strategy to solving the hard drive issues. I've split one of the externals into two MBR partitions instead of a single 3tb GTP partition. The idea is that I can dodge the firmware issue if it's a GTP/3tb limitation. Only time will tell, but if it works I can clean up my recording drives, make a bunch of backups, and maybe tackle some extra video projects I otherwise wouldn't be able to due to space problems.

I've also slowly restarted DMC3 recordings.
