Modding is great and it will be even better with SC2, but you should be careful that it doesn't go completel overboard ("modding for the sake of modding"). But then again, I'm a story-freak - an intriguing story with some interesting mini-games (instead of survival, base building and similar) and I'm hoked

I played most of VE 1 and what I liked most about it was not the custom units - quite frankly, it would not have made much difference if the immortals had been dragoons instead. What made it really awesome was the clever use of sounds (especially in the intro cinematic), superb voice acting and what would be termed "professionalism" per the rules, ie. making sure everything is timed right, no silly bugs, text properly aligned, etc.

Thank you all for the kind compliments. It seriously helps to fill the gap in motivation I've been lacking as of late.

You mentioned you used Audition. It appears that this software houses many more audio effects than what I currently use (Audacity). I was wondering; is Audition freeware, or do I have to pay for it?

urgh. Audacity. I hates it. Maybe if you pinpointed the best user-made plugins you could do something with it but I found the interface infuriating and the program vastly limited compared to Audition.
However, Audition is not freeware.

Also make note that using Audition isn't as simple as applying premade effects. It takes tweaking and perfection to achieve this kind of stuff.

Fuck. Well, I doubt I'd be able to get the money to buy it. I'll look for it online.
And if you happen to have any tips or the like for using Audition, please please PLEASE P.M. me. I'm doing this Comedy map, and I'd like to voice it. ^.^
EDIT: I just downloaded this thing called Music Editor Free (MEF). I'll try this out, but I find it ridiculous that Audition costs $350...

If you're in need of sound editing advice, you can check out Maglok's [Sound]: Recording thread. The links there cover a lot of the basics in regards to voice acting.

I might make a basic Audition primer. I think I already made video tutorials covering basic usage of the program, though.

Update time!
My first attempt at somewhat satisfactory wireframes:

[imgwh 640x480]http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff13 ... 235423.jpg[/imgwh]
[imgwh 640x480]http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff13 ... 235636.jpg[/imgwh]
The thick mothership wireframe was my second sketch after the resizing attempt of the following image (first sketch) failed horribly:
[imgwh 640x480]http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff13 ... hip3-1.jpg[/imgwh]
Furthermore, units such as the Mothership and Phoenix have also been modified in order to display player colors. Credits to Seiji_Asuru for this fine achievement.
And for those interested, Mothership voice samples have also been attached.
