Not necessarily. There's some pretty decent 3d games out there (Earth 2160 if you can look past the VERY strange level of detail system on the terrain and the utterly atrocious level design, which isn't speaking about the gameplay because the gameplay is a tremendous pile of donkey cocks oiled and slathered in baking powder), it's just that Blizzard is so obsessed with their "style", and the fact that sc2 has been in production for so long, that some portions of it just look strange.

Dawn of war 2 looks pretty decent in some parts but, much like the first game, suffers from blurry terrain in parts and very blurry buildings/doodads.

Also I think Blizzard is inexperienced with using their new texture alpha/blend system that the terrain is using. It's like NWN2 where you paint textures on instead of using tiles. This can make it look really blurry if it isn't painted correctly, which is 90% of the time in sc2's screenshots.

I mean, the metal in space platform and some of the stuff in the city tileset looks amazing. But everything with dirt looks so awful.

That.

Also, I seriously don't get the world's obsession with 3D rts games. Total Annihilation was fun, but shouldn't 3D be reserved for genres that actually benefit from it, such as shooters or rpgs like Fallout, instead of making rts battlefields look like spaghetti soup?

I'd be willing to bet that they could make some mean rts game in 2D if they really wanted to.

Apparently. Which begs the question. Aside from giving it a "fake realistic" look it, what was the big idea behind 3D? Isn't 3D, like, so 90s?
The correct way to say that would be, "Which raises the question."  Begging the question is a type of logical fallacy and completely disconnected from what you meant.

Well one major advantage of 3d is you can make far better cinematics in a 3d world then you can in a 2d one. Even in wc3 you could do some pretty cool stuff with a bit of time, and sc2 will probably have a lot of features that wc3 didn't. One I noticed immediately in their WWI launch demo was camera smoothing.

Descriptive grammar will eventually defeat prescriptive grammar. I really believe that.

..... Does something about that high templar behind Zeratul look..... different....? Something about him just doesn't look normal.... Perhaps a new character? He's got the glowy thing like the heroes in WC3.

From the current angle, that High Templar looks alot like a WC3-Eredar Warlock to me.  Must be the cape.

Maybe they just reused the model and changed it up a bit.

I don't think Blizzard is this lazy.  Like I said before, it's probably just the cape.  Plus Eredar and Protoss both have the same leg structure, so that probably adds to the resemblance.

It's either that, or it really is an Eredar in SC2 and the story is actually about the Burning Legion invasion of the Korprulu Sector.

Protoss character designs were around before eredar bullshit, so maybe its actually protoss invading azeroth.

More like for a Marine having a toast with an Orc.
