It was CPU intensive because it recalculated every single polygon in the entire map mesh and not just those effected by the deformation.

How very wasteful.  Sounds like the release copy of Crysis.

Everyday business for Blizzard.

This is false. You can safely ignore it.

No, not false. Tested and verified.

There's only one reason why increasing the complexity of the terrain will also increase the lag created by terrain deformation. As the map mesh becomes higher poly and the calculation has to handle more polies it will naturally increase cpu usage. I tested this extensively to solve the lag issue with terrain deformation from Earthquake, thunderclap, ect. in LoL and this is why. The terrain was very complex and it was recalculating the entire map.

This would be a much nicer reply if you gave a reasoning.

Heh, this is pretty obvious to say, but Blizzard hasn't released anything on SC2 in quite awhile, something big has to be coming up at Blizzcon.

Because if it recalculated everything every time it would always be laggy. The only way to increase the actual # of triangles on any map of a given size is to add cliffs or water - doodads/units are not calculated for defomration (only position is). Otherwise terrain deformation only stretches polies across a given space. You aren't creating new triangles when you do terrain deformation.

Some things that might lag it:
Massive deformation effects
Simultaneous deformation effects

Nope. A simple thunderclap will cause a significant lag spike if the map is complicated enough. LoL for example. If you have a crappy machine then less complicated maps will also cause lag spikes. You can't notice it on traditional maps because they have virtually no terrain detail and are therefore very low poly, which is probably how Blizzard figured it would stay.

I know doodads aren't map geometry, I'm not even talking about doodads. I don't even know why you bring those up. Give me more credit WB I've modded wc3 since it was released.

Terrain deformation recalculates the entire map mesh. I've tested it. This isn't simultaneous effects. This is a single, small effect, like Earthquake or thunderclap.

5. The Firebat has disappeared, what other close combat units do we have ?

Terrans currently have no melee units for multiplayer. The Firebat will however be seen in the single player campaign.
w00t

hopefully this means when they realise the Thor is stupid they can remove it from multiplayer while keeping it in single player where it belongs

Unlike steam. lol

Blizzard finally updated their forums to the WoW ones given the recent hackage.

...  yes.  Sigh, if only there was more to talk about.  Damn you Blizzcon!  Oh well, guess there will be plenty to talk about soon enough.

Honestly, Blizzcon isn't an excuse for their lack of updates. Blizzard promised weekly Q&A's, let alone the fact the actual site has been neglected for months and months. It takes one guy to bring the site up to speed with existing content and one guy to throw a few well-known trinkets into the site to modernize it a bit. People don't even go to sc2's site for info anymore, they go to TL forums or one of the many thousands of sc2 sites that have sprung up to fill the void in information.

Hell, they've been updating WoW's site with every few revisions of the game in the wotlk beta and the PTR. Surely they can do something with sc2's site as well.

D3's site is a lot worse than sc2's though. I think they've had all but one addition since the announcement in Paris.
