Are we only counting video games? I was making really, really terrible games on paper and pencil well before War2 was out.

Hey, I did that too. My brother and I made them until we were banned from it using too much paper.

For StarCraft... I beleive my first map I threw on random units in a 'reasonable' order, with a base for the player and enemy and when I tested it I couldn't understand why the enemy didn't do anything. Sigh.

The first thing I actually released was StarCraft Reuniting- and that campaign was absolutely terrible. I learned a lot from it though.

My first discovery of SC was playing Lurker Defense maps. So I picked those apart to learn how triggers worked and what could be done with them. Besides that, I also liked skyrocketing the minerals on all of the melee maps so I could play forever against the AI.

The most complete SCBW map I made was a defense/survival type. It featured three Zerg Insane AI which I let work with 12-15 stacked Hives, so it had tons of larva to just spew out units. The goal was to destroy an Overmind building, but that just never happened in our playtests. Eventually, I had to imbalance the game by giving the human players more money and modify the terrain to make it a lot easier to create a siege.

I've got a small slew of 8 player maps that I made that are all hilariously imbalanced and fun to play against the default AI on.
