Uh... If I'm spending over $30 on a product it better damn well last over 3 years.

Yes. But do you want it to?

So wait, when you get an iPod, you're going to have to replace it in a few years when the new version of Flash Drive With Headphones™ comes out? People probably like their "shitty bricks" to last, because they don't want to buy the exact same product over and over again. Just a hunch.
Man, don't play dumb. Don't you replace your computers and whatnot? I'm sorry, judging from iPod sales, I think people really do want to do that.

I didn't invent this system. I'd be making millions if I had... And like I said, nobody's forcing you. It's happening, whether you like it or not.

My original statement was that whenever Apple announces something, ANYTHING, there's always the same reaction. I guess I didn't have to, but I think I've proven it still works like that. :P

You're asking me if I want to spend needless amounts of money replacing something I should not need to replace. It's not comparable to a computer, it's an mp3 player, like a radio. No, I do not want to arbitrarily replace something just because a bulkier and more expensive version came out.

Then don't. I just said people do this and Apple's success is undeniable, whether you would stand in line for their products or not.

Also, nobody said iPods don't last long and you NEED to replace them. I've had some of mine for years. Newer models are improvements, technical and aesthetical. And I do think they're comparable to computers. Or cars. People want to use them, people want them to look nice, and people understand that they don't last forever and require replacement after a number years. I'm just saying what I see happening. Denying it doesn't make it less true.

The only reason apple is successful is because people are stupid. But really, that's the only reason MS is successful (although they also capitalized on a potential market much like Blizzard did with WoW and had like-minded success).

So, if people were smart, they'd, what? Assemble their own computers, purchase clunky machines that may or may not do the job. Spend as little money on as many gigabytes as they can - just so they can say they got the same amount of disk space FOR LESS? I don't know.

Anyway, I just wanted to say Apple has new iPods. I'm really loving the new iPod Touch and I'm thinking about getting my girlfriend a new Nano. It's so much fun being stupid.

Well if you've got the money you've got the money I guess.

Yeah, that's typically what they do. I've no forgiveness for people who buy prebuilt computers like Dell or Alienware. :)

Why is the iPod "the kind of thing you'll want to replace after 3-4 years"?

My friend bought one of those "other brandless" mp3 players years ago. It has no restrictions on file types, it needs no proprietary software or gimmicky BS that keeps you from moving your files around.
It fills the roll of Flash Drive with Headphones™ and that's all it should ever do.

It's too bad it's so hard to find players that are like this now, because everyone suicided themselves over trying to be Apple 2.0, when they never needed to be.

I've got a 2GB thumb drive mp3 player from Sony. Sony is usually a giant pile of steaming pony manure with their DRM, but on this one, they got it right. They built a Flash Drive with Headphones and I love it. Too bad they already made everyone hate them too much for all of the BS they've pulled in the past...

People replace their computers because faster, more productive ones come along. How do you make a music playing device faster? Can you make it play more music into your ears faster? No. lol. Can you make it hold more music? Sure, but there hasn't really been a huge jump in MP3 player disk space lately.

People react negatively to Apple announcements because they realize that it's just more gimmicky BS piled on to old products. The iPod kicked everyone's ass, it's a great product. Is it amazing that they added a color screen to it? No. Will fanboys still blindly buy it anyways? You bet.

Legion wrote: It's so much fun being stupid.
Why didn't you just buy each one of you an iPhone 4 with as much memory as you can get? If I was impressed by Apple, that's really the only product of theirs that I would bother with, these days. I don't consider anything else by them to be very competitive...

If its capable of playing high bitrate audio with decent space (storage is pennies) then its as good as you are going to get, any improvement over that is being a hipster that impulse buys needless sidegrades to their current ones.

Anything you can stick into a computer providing your intelligence is comparable to this monkey is actually going to be an improvment. No it's not the same as your new MP3 player that has new casing and a battery draining interface.

The whole argument is kind of pointless considering that the hardware is similar between Apple, Creative, and Microsoft. Your main reasons for picking any of them over the other are:

1) Price
2) Warranty
3) Convienence
4) What Others Think of Your Product (Marketing or General Consumer Opinion)

Microsoft and Creative arguably have 1 or 2 of the 4 while Apple can claim 3 or 4, hence its market share.

ITT: Legion acts dumb.

Actually having used a random flash drive with headphones, a zune and a nano, the nano was easily the worst. itunes is a piece of shit, the thing liked to shut off in cold weather despite being a flash drive (lithium ion batteries shouldn't do this), no radio and stupid DRM basically killed any drive for me to purchase another one, then it died due to this http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2007/ ... ista_fix/1 (obviously both companies fault)

zune>flash drive>ipod

I highly doubt legion has owned all three and therefore is unable to provide an informed opinion

The difference between Apple fanboys (lol) and you guys is you feel the need to always prove you're right with your figures and your 'informed' opinions and comparisons. I've been saying that all along, so go ahead and enjoy.
