Interestingly, I also looked for macs, and a comparable laptop was twice as expensive.
I have little interest in OSX anyway, if I were to move from win7, I would rather jump straight to SLES 10 or even ESX and deploy like a shitton of vm dedicated servers.
I have read a few good reviews from the laptoip model and the video card, so it is likely i will go for it. Here in mexico, it is the best priced pos I have seen so far. I could import, but i would need to know someone who could ship it here.

OK, I'm posting from my very own G73 and I gotta say it's the best thing that ever happened to me since my supermodel girlfriend sold her soul to me in exchange for my excellent sexy time skills only when I feel like treating her.
This laptop, I bought specifically for StarCraft 2. HOWEVER, I have replaced both my gaming machine AND my editing machine with this laptop. This laptop runs circles around BOTH of those computers. Combined. Five times over.
The new i7 processor screams. 6gb of GDDR5 RAM pre-loaded? With room to upgrade if I get bored? Fuck my ass sideways. The video card runs Starcraft 2 EVERYTHING on Ulrta mode with absolutely no glitches or delays. Ever.
Backlit keyboard is a bells-and-whistles freebee perfect for playing games or working in the dark without bothering the shit out of anyone. But if you're ever in the hankering for annoying the public, the stereo speakers are ridiculously loud. Menace to Society? I think, DOUBLE YES.
I currently run Adobe CS5 off this machine and it swims through all the HD crap I put it through and then insults me for not making it sweat. Yesterday I worked on a feature film in 5 hours what took me 2 weeks with my previous machine.
It's a beast of a miltitasker. The other day, I resumed the preloaded Windows 7 to discover that I'd forgotten I was running Starcraft 2, Majesty 2, a 1 gb Premiere Pro project, Photoshop AND Mirror's Edge. All at once. And my laptop was all like, "Oh hey. *yawn* didn't see ya there. Sup?"
To seal the deal, Best Buy has this delicious machine for a laughable $1,199. Yeah, that's right. Fuck your mother, Alienware. This laptop looks at scary budgets and makes their dicks shrink into vaginae for fun.
I say for anybody looking for a love-child of Hulk Hogan and the Terminators from all the movies put together, gang-banged by the full cast of The Expendables, for next to free, this is your best bet.
Asus G73 for the win.

Adendum: I just checked the thread completely and as far as the heat issue:
Those totally awesome Stealth Bomber vents in the back, yeah they shoot the heat right out to that dickhead sitting across from you at the college coffee shop that you just want to punch in the face for wearing those ridiculously stupid rectangular piss-off glasses.
I often sit in bed with this laptop, with the monitor off, masturbating to absolutely nothing because I no longer need porn, with the perpetual thought of just how awesome this laptop is. And my legs never get warm. Save for the sticky stuff.
The laptop simply won't ever get hot. Ever.

How much your G73 cost you? /edit oh of course I missed it, 1.1k. That's not too bad.
As for multitasking... try encoding a 1920x1200 video in x264 at high quality bluray settings, running WoW, three instances of 3ds max one of which is rendering, two auditions, 50-60 folders, 6 firefox windows with around 50-60 tabs a piece, assorted minor programs including vent, trillian, notepad++ and regular notepad. I don't run Photoshop CS5 since only 4 32-bit and below support DDS, so I can't say anything about that, but that's typically running as well on an active day along with psp and animation shop. Sometimes sony vegas, depending on what else I'm doing (aka when I was editing the TQ video).
That's my average workload.
I loved your post though.
also my specs are i7 920, 12 gig pc8500 corsair dominator, ATI 4870x2, Asus Xonar d2, rampage II extreme motherboard, and a total of 5.5 terabytes of hd space across 6 or so hd's (I've actually fucking lost count). I also got a copper battleship to cool the cpu. If you exclude the fact I spent $550 on a motherboard which is insane, I could get most of those parts and a better video card for probably a lot less than a laptop. However, once you include my other gear including both my mics, my 24" widescreen monitor, my shiny Klipsch 2.1 speakers, my total bill came to around $2500 over the course of two years.
The best laptop I could find around the ~500-600 CAD range doesn't even have a GPU. Just built-in. Intel, to boot. Barely runs WoW on minimum.

Yeah no problem.
1920x1200 rendered out with Sorenson or h.264 is pretty standard. I don't run WoW, but considering it's pretty antiquated, you could replace that with a comparable game (or stack games like Mirror's Edge + DoW2 + UaW).
My usual programs running are:
Word 2010
Excel 2010
Chrome around 10 or so tabs, including Hulu and Youtube (Firefox was a hog before and I never went back)
Trillian Astra
TeamSpeak
Skype
Gotomypc
Dropbox
LoL
SC2
Encore CS5
After Effects CS5
Premiere Pro CS5
Photoshop CS5
And 3dsMax when my supermodel designer girlfriend wants to do some stupid shit and I just tab out for a little bit to shut her up.
And usually I never shut them down. I just close my laptop lid until I wake up in the morning.
Joking aside, it really is a laptop to set a standard.
I usually run my sound recording off an exterior Lexicon sound card with a condensor mic isolated in my sound booth, with three monitors split across the room for doing random production shit. But that's not relevant. I would say, however, that all of my production equipment (this laptop included) cost me $1600 total (because eBay and Craigslist are your friend).
Keep in mind, I - like Alevice - travel a LOT so mobility is a HUGE motivator. For a mobile unit at a competitive price, it really doesn't get better.

oh god how can you bring yourself to use astra and teamspeak aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
well I mean I guess I'll have to switch to astra when the aim servers decide to choke on a fat cock like msn's did. I'lve been using Trillian 2-3 for... god, forever. Since they first came out.
The i7 is a great processor. Hyperthreading = 8 cores. Unfortunately the only program I've yet to find that fully uses that is 3ds max. Even megui's x264 is not completely taking advantage of them (I can play sc2 or WoW while it's running, and WoW is actually a pretty freaking enormous cpu/gpu hog because of how inefficient it is, Aion runs 5x better).
I ran a test on this cpu vs my old Athlon x2 6000 3.0ghz with 3ds max. This processor literally renders 10x as fast.

It really does. I rendered out a feature film in HD a week ago in an hour that took my previous machine seven hours. It's orgasmic.
I use Astra because that's what my buddy gave me when my old machine got wiped. It's not that bad.
And TS3 is what my friends use for their LoL guild that I grace with my oily presence every once in a while.

Should use vent. I find that the quality and such is just way better than TS ever offered. Maybe that's changed... but eh. Someone keeps trying to make me try mumble but not so bothered to care until it's more widely used.
Unfortunately the use of afterburn can still bring the i7 to its knees with rendering. Some stuff you just need a farm for.

And that's what a 16-machine render farm is for.
I used to use Vent in the old DotA days with another group of guys. But TS hasn't bothered me yet. At least not the 2nd or 3rd release of it. I'd say they're both good.
OH! I forgot to mention that when I DO need to run a mac program, the G73 runs the OSX pretty well, off to the side while I'm doing everything else. *cries* I really do love this machine. Excuse me while I go masturbate now.

Honestly if I ever dump an insane amount of money into hardware again I think that I might end up doing is setting up a render farm. Nothing commercial worthy, but 5-8 cheap ass computers apparently is far better than one super computer.
The only thing is I couldn't do it in this house because the wiring is so bad that I'd never find a place to plug them all in without blowing out the power. Shit, vacuums and coffee machines blow out the power.

Get a blade center and a few hs22v to fill 'em. Too bad I don't think they build high end gpus for them, but maybe link them all through vSphere and then set up on huge ass vm that uses the load from all the hosts.

I just got it and it is giving me the boners. I wish it had an extra wide expansion slot.
