That makes gutting a UI feature (which is more useful for transfusion and custom map healing etc) even more stupid.

Expansions aren't generally too far to walk to if you placed creep properly, I've rarely have much issue with the Queen's energy unless I get lazy.

Actually it was bugged so the Queen sprayed it no matter how far she was from the Hatchery. Instead of fixing it they did that instead.

When the expansions are that far off, you spawn another Queen for that expansion.

It's not the Spawn Larva mechanic that bothers me. I actually feel it's an improvement to the SC1 days of having to build literally 30 hatcheries late into the game in order to keep up with resources. What does bother is the stale unit composition, as Mesk said.
- Zerglings are less effective in SC2; literally everything in this game has more health than they did in SC1, so armies aren't as fragile. Except for the Zergling, whose health remains the same. Oh, and their attack speed is worse. Even in SC1, the Zergling's survivability was non-existent, but at least they could kill things.
- Hydralisks are less cost-effective in SC2; 50 gas as opposed to 25
- One spellcaster as opposed to two spellcasters in SC1, and Zerg's new spells are entirely inferior
- Not that Zerg is in any position to have extra spellcasters, considering that Roaches and Banelings put a strain on gas reserves, and since they're the only viable ground Zerg has, it's a pain in the ass to get any high-end units. And by "high-end units", I mean anything that costs more than 50 gas.
- Air is lopsided; no Scourges, Mutalisks and Corruptors don't have that nice synergy that Mutalisks and Devourers had, and Mutalisks still don't !@#$%#^%^ morph into anything
So yeah.

Doesn't help that both nexus and oc can spawn anywhere with no delay. If you pick a queen with some free energy and there is not a hatchery without extra larva the queen has to travel alk the way to an expo to inject.
edit: and that's what i get for leaving this page for some hours.
