Oh. I know why. Herp a derp derp.

Delete the sound folder in your starcraft directory. It's overriding your custom mpq.

lololol I should have warned you about that.

Personally, I would merely prefix the "sound" folder in my StarCraft directory, such that the resultant folder name would be "_sound". That way, I'd be able to keep the sounds for quick access in case I ever needed them.

It works! I moved the Sound folder out from the Starcraft folder and the new custom sound works! Bah, I knew it would be something obvious >_>

Well now that that's done, I'm going to try changing the unit portrait.

For this one, can't I just grab a video file or something and use it to replace the unit portrait? Because you mentioned that I need skills in Paintshop Pro. From your reply, it seems to imply that I can't just grab a video file and chuck it into my MPQ. That I need to use Paintshop (which I never used) to do editing and stuff.

The videos need to be in smacker format (specifically the format from the old rad tools), and PSP is used to apply the starcraft-specific 256 palette to all of your individual frames before conversion.

So Smacker makes the video into the right format... PSP (what is this?) makes each frame into the Starcraft specific colour palette and then after that is it the same process as the sound?

Smacker is a really, really, REALLY old video format. The frames, which are dozens of bmp files, are what you'll be turning into those video files. Before that, you need to batch apply a palette onto them using paint shop pro, which is similar to photoshop but the palette handling is way easier and faster.

This is after rendering your animation as individual bmps in the right resolution which I can't recall offhand.

I see.....

So that means I can't really grab an existing video (since I don't know the process of turning a video into a ton of BMP files, if it's even possible). I would have to make my own. Darn, I don't have time to do 3D work for this.

Well at least I have my custom unit voices in.

I guess I won't have time to do the other two since this is practically due tomorrow.

So with that, I want to thank you for all your help. It was actually interesting modding Starcraft. I might come back to do a real mod but for now, I'll have to put it aside.

Thanks guys ^^

This is possible via a program like After Effects, Premiere Pro, etc. Almost any video converter can convert videos to individual frames. Using something like Paintshop Pro or (preferred for me) Photoshop will help convert each frame to a specific index of colors to properly display in StarCraft. It's time consuming at the least.
