People aren't spending enough time on the beauty of their maps, that's the issue, I believe, and I know a fast pass through terrain and doodads makes the map look like WC3 all too easily.

99.9999% of people who terrained wc3 maps were completely and totally awful
WarGiant was amongst the few, the proud, that could say he was good at wc3 terrain.
And myself, of course. You don't spend years making failed campaigns without getting good at terraining them.
SC2's editor is a considerable step backwards from wc3 in terms of terraining interface, to be honest. In particular the placement tool. It is surprisingly annoying to make a straight wall because you don't get a real outline of what you're making and it has a habit of veering off at the slightest provocation. There needs to be some kind of snap to grid feature.
Oh, yeah, and more than 2 cliff elevations.

Apparently you don't spend years making failed campaigns and end up making one that didn't fail.

This guy has some pretty good basic tutorial video's for people like me who never touched the Warcraft 3 editor and have very little idea of what the hell's going on.
