I agree there, RCX. My power grind on my Dreanei shaman from 1 to 60 was the best experience of the entire game, even though I pressed both my mental and physical abilities to their absolute limits. I was like the 2nd shaman to hit 60 on our battlegroup. After that, though, I really lost interest in outlands and then slowed down. I still ended up hitting 70 before most of the others did, though. Then, I got Thunder and Drakefist.

And then I quit.

3 level 60s and a level 70. Endgame was all about pvp to me, and pvp without endgame raiding gear was impossible. I never relished the idea of spending months in the same crappy instance waiting for a drop an idiot guild leader might hand out. I worked hard on my warrior to get some raid gear out of BWL and got cockblocked at every turn by our idiot GM. WoW endgame is a complete and total screwup. Even on a balanced playing field in terms of gear, some classes are blatantly overpowered and yet continue to get buffed (Locks, rogues). If you aren't pvping a losing balance-game, you're wasting your life in instances for purple-colored text. There is nothing else to do at all.

WoW is milking the untapped (then) cash cow of the MMO market. So long as it has the Blizzard name slapped on it, people will continue to pay for it.

I really hope sc2 doesn't turn out the same way. Wc3 and WoW were rough roads and WoW especially showed me just how badly blizzard can screw up a game.

I hear that the blissard team got back some old starcraft 1 designers just to make sure that the new game is as good and balanced as the original.

WoW, why did everyone like it? heck i was addicted to a different MMORPG namely urbandead.com. but now I am basically getting rid of my addiction by playing counter strike and half-life 2 :)

I recommend doing the same .....either that or making good ol' fashion Starcraft mods :)
vision of the future was the best campaign series ever, thats my opinion.

I guess this thread is about how everyone quit WoW, so I'll tell my own story.

Leveling my hunter in Barrens and Hillsbrad was a lot of fun. I still remember the questline where you give poison to some dude's dog. And shooting cows. Lots of cows. Listening to them let out their last moo as my silver bullet lays them to rest. I shot lots of cows on my mage too.

So then came 70, and at first it started out fine, but eventually the game just got repetitive. Like, farming rep for Mag'har takes so much time, and the reward is so small. You literally have to kill thousands of ogres to get exalted, and all you get are a bunch of goat mounts. I actually spent the time to get exalted just because I was so bored and there was a 24/7 battle between the alliance and horde on the elemental plateau.

The reputation system is just retarded. Look, I know MMORPGs are about spending time, but why does it need to be so repetitive? For example, if I wanted to get revered with Cenarion Expedition, I'd have to run steamvault 30 times. I mean come on, why can't I just run each coilfang instance once and be done with it? To make it worse, the only thing revered opens you up to is running heroic slave pens 30 times. That's just great. Farming rep could've been made fun, but instead Blizzard decided to be lazy and give us nothing but an instance and/or a repeatable quest for each faction.

PvP was the main appeal of the game for me, but it's probably the most ass-backwards aspect of the game. How the fuck is it fair for warriors to have deep thunder, mortal strike, AND death wish? For those who have no idea how powerful deep thunder is, think dark edge 2.0. Only this time it's a craftable item instead of a rare raid drop. It is not uncommon for a warrior with deep thunder to MS crit for 4k when he has death wish up. And I'm being generous with 4k, more like 5k. Anyone who says warriors are even remotely underpowered in TBC is talking out of their ass. Meanwhile, hunters have a plethora of abilities that don't scale at all and are in general underpowered (immo trap, explosive trap, volley, mongoose bite, most stings). If I knew this is how endgame PvP was going to be, I would've rolled a warrior. Okay, that was a lot of ranting for one class, so I'll just skip the rest.

So then I was playing 2v2 Arena with Arcan. It was pretty fun, but Blade's Edge is a god awful design if it can even be called a design. Yes, I'm aware hunters can jump on the pillars and scattershot anyone that tries to jump on them. The first person that points this out is DEAD. I will kill him.

First of all, jumping on a pillar renders my pet useless. Even though he's a wind serpent with ranged lightning breath, he can't attack anything that's on the bridge. A lot of the time he'll get stuck on those stupid spikes as well, and if I were specced BM I wouldn't be able to pop TBW, because I need LoS on my pet.

Not only do hunters have to deal with the LoS issues that every ranged class does, but we also have our deadzone, a disadvantage unique to us. Eventually the battle comes down to the ground and I have to deal with even more LoS issues, if not with the 4 pillars on the ground, the 4 ramps leading back up. I still remember that one arena match where I was playing run around the fucking pillar with a resto shaman. I have to chase him, because I'm in a bad situation if he's LoSing me. When I finally get to him, he's in my deadzone. So I scattershot>trap>run back>aimed shot and oops, he just went behind the pillar and healed himself. Repeat this pattern for around 10 minutes. This is probably the reason why I see tons of posts on the hunter forums crying "OMG REMOVE DEADZONE" but really, the culprit is this map.

Blizzard was NEVER good at designing maps. See Starcraft. It was up to the competitive community to make the maps that all the leagues use now. Lost Temple, the only Blizzard map that made it into any league map packs, isn't even used that much anymore.

So yeah, I deleted my main hunter a few weeks ago to ensure that I wouldn't go back to riding my mount in a circle around shattrah city spamming LFG and being told "sorry, we're looking for a dps class."

My story is a bit less dramatic, I ran out of money.

NOTE: I didn't spend all my time and effort and money into it I just lost my job and decided that I would rather spend the money on a gift for Maggie.

I quit after I leveled my druid to 63 and got tired with the ganking, seriously some of the worst shit in WoW was the incessant ganking by 70s while leveling through the 60s. At the very least I had a chance to run away or disable a 60 in my 50s but by god the only way out of getting corpse camped leveling in Outlands was to log out or get reamed in the ass for 3 hours straight. That being said some of the most fun I had was leveling my druid to 60. Leveling my hunter to 70 was fun too, except for the whole "Oh you put a bunch of time into raiding so you deserve to get fucked over and have all your items reduced to vendor trash." PvP on my hunter was what made me keep playing after 60, but BC just raped it in the ass.

PS: Nerf motherfucking warlocks.

Never played it, largely because of the monthly fee. I'd be more interested if it were possible to see it in single player; the ability to walk around and look at stuff at my own pace appeals to me a lot more than being stuck on a schedule with a group of people. Also, I'm a stickler for completion, and the fact that it isn't humanly possible to see and do everything in the game in even a few months would grate on me to no end.

Actually, it IS possible. Well, except for the fact the most amount of time in WoW is spent reputation grinding and instance farming. All actual "content" is easily experienced within 2 months of starting.

Well, assuming you find a decent guild to do endgame instances with. Trust me, you're better off not even trying.

I play. Which...might be an understatement.

Alleria server
lvl38 Druid, Night Elf Male

Spirestone server
lvl18 Warlock, Gnome Male
lvl15 Paladin, Human Female
lvl12 Priest, Night Elf Female
lvl14 Rogue, Dwarf Male

Dark Iron server
lvl15 Shaman, Troll Female
lvl18 Warrior, Tauren Male
lvl17 Hunter, Orc Male
lvl20 Mage, Undead Female

In other words, a character for every class and race. Wanted to experience them all. Blizzard did a good job developing an interesting variety of classes each with their own playstyles, techniques, advantages/disadvantages, and economies.

As a sidenote: Warriors without Plate really suck hard. My Hunter can tank better with his pet and has a far superior DPS. In fact, my Hunter's pet has the same health and higher armor than my Warrior, and while my Warrior has no way to heal, my Hunter can use Pet Mend to heal his pet. Major disadvantage for the Warrior there. As others have pointed out, though, that does change toward endgame, but in early levels the Warrior sucks.

I haven't played lately, however. Probably because the recent patch screwed over my UI mods. I just started getting into UI mods, and really liked what I had going. Then patch. Bah.

Tanking got pretty screwed over in burning crusade, especially where gear is concerned considering that there is a limit to how much reduction you can get, and it's not very high.

Even late game the warrior sucks unless you have a high end guild feeding you gear.

Up to the end I was having the most fun with my Hunter because I grew very attached to my pets. Two in particular: a black Wind Serpent from Wailing Caverns, and a lime-green Silithid Creeper from the Barrens. Neither could ever catch up in levels to me, and I became pretty good with the class because I had a wealth of experience fighting against them in BGs (in fact I learned how to use all the classes by PVP'ing against them with my Mage).

Warriors are never that much enjoyable, I just like them cause I love one-one combat with no mana. But I like my level 65 Paladin
