Starcraft - Obviously. What site are we on? =oP It's the first game I modded, and the one I've invested more time into than any other game, ever. Afterall, what other games do you have installed and still play that are over a decade old?

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge - The first computer game I ever played. Its beautiful art style and zany world of pirates drew me in. I was so inspired that I drafted my very first game design: Pirate Island. Yeah, I was young. =o)

Might & Magic 2 - My first experience with RPGs, and boy did it eat every waking moment I could spare of my younger days. The sound of a party member dying, dun-dun dun-dun-dunn!, still haunts my dreams.

Marathon - My first experience with FPS games. At the time, my family only had a Mac, so I never played Wolfenstein or Doom until much later. The atmosphere and story of Marathon completely engrossed me. Scary derelict spaceship? Check. Invading slaver aliens? Check. Insane AIs vying for control and manipulating you as a pawn? Check. Dual-wieldable shotguns? Hell fucking yeah, check!

Half-Life - When my family finally entered the world of PCs, our computer was far from a powerhouse. Still, it could play this, and how I loved it. An instant classic even in its own time. Who could forget the first time they jumped at the high-pitched squeal of a lunging headcrab?


There are a number of other games I'd love to add to this list, such as SimCity 2000, SimAnt, Populous, Starsiege, System Shock 2, and so many others. Five is just never enough. =o)

1. StarCraft.  The obvious choice.  I've spent a lot of time campaigning, modding and playing this game.  It's been fun.

2. Baldur's Gate (1 and 2).  My favourite RPGs of all time.

3. WarCraft II. One of the first games I got for a modern PC was the WarCraft I and II Battlechest.  WarCraft II was my first Blizzard game, which led to me eventually playing Diablo I and StarCraft.  Also, there was the WarCraft II Map Editor.  I had a whole stack of Floppy Disks full of WC2 maps back in the day.

4. Master of Orion II.  Just one more turn!  I'd probably still be playing the odd round of this game if it hadn't been for Gal Civ II taking its place.

WCII - First game I can remember on the PC.  Who else remembers connecting through MSN Zone because TCP/IP was new technology?

Starcraft - Sweet! We don't need MSN Zone anymore!

Chrono Trigger - Great game.  I've beaten it on every console it's been released on in the US

Megaman X - First SNES game I ever owned.  Played this game.  Then X3 for the PC, then x4 for the ps1.  All of them were great!

FF7 - Everybody likes to say FF6 because looking back, it was a better game.  However, anyone who knows anything will tell you that FF7 was a more important game.  It was the first real 3d rpg, and it was the first rpg to really become popular in the US.

1) StarCraft - Many reasons, if I list them all it would end up looking like (maybe even be) a rant. Story, gameplay, modding and music.
2) EVE Online - Even though I've only played a two week trial, I have to say this changed my outlook on things. I probably would play it, but there aren't any stores in my area with prepaid game cards for it.
3) Star Wars: TIE Fighter, Collector's Edition - My first PC game that wasn't on a 5-1/2" floppy disk.
4) Final Fantasy VI - First one I played and my favorite of the series.
5) Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption - One of the games that inspired me to make my mod in the first place.

4) Final Fantasy VII
The first Final Fantasy I ever played, and to this day still do. I played this perhaps three years after it released. I never owned a Playstation, but when I moved my cousin let me borrow his and this game, and I spent my lonely hours playing this day after day. I got attached to the story heavily and still remember almost any portion of it off the top of my head. I can only hope the tech demo was a tease to reality. (FF1-5 remade, 6 in progress.. Hope for 7 rising.)

Hm?  I'm pretty sure you just made that part up about FF6 being remade.  I hope you didn't, but I think you did.

FF6 was ported to the PS and GBA, it has not had a remake, all rereleases have used the original assets. Although the GBA version added a fuckton of shit.

Let's make a huge speculation thread about a Final fantasy VII remake

You know like when you look for Final fantasy VII remake on google and it brings you to a shitty forum where people are speculating about the game?  I want to be those guys.

That's actually what I did when Lav said something about a FF6 remake.  I googled it, but I didn't even find any shitty forums talking about it.  IN FACT, google directed me to shitty forums talking about a FF7 remake.

But yeah, let's not do that.  In fact, hey, I've got something else!

I still own all of those games that I listed.  Even all of the other games that I didn't list, that are important to me, from ages ago, I still have all of them.  Do you guys keep your old games around, or are they long since gone?

I imagine that older PC games would be harder to keep around though, because of newer computers not even being able to play them, and whatnot...

Older games still work fine on newer computers, really old ones might need to run in DOSBox or something.

I still have all the games I've ever bought, I think the oldest I have is Star Crusader and Descent.

haha.. I don't usually reply to these sorts of threads and not sure if the opinions of a 44 year old surf bum would be worth much to kids.  I mean I was born before PONG!  So yeah, I've seen them all.

Anywho for what it's worth here are this old fart's top 5 "PC" games.. at least I think this is limited to PC from what I've read.

#1 STARCRAFT... well duh.  I find it rather odd that I've spent more time "around" the game than actually playing it tho!   It's really the only video game I'm still active with and it's more of a way to kill some time in the winter evenings to be honest.  I feel this is pretty much a kid's game due to the "real time" aspect of the game.  I doubt a 75 year old man would be able to hang with an 18 year old with a 6 pack of Pepsi.  Which brings me to my next choices.

#2 CHESSMASTER Series.  Chess is similar to tennis in that if you don't find a playing partner of equal skill, it's a real bore.  As a kid I found myself mostly playing against positions in books or solving puzzles.  When the first chess computers came out, they weren't very good and were very expensive.  Chessmaster was one of the first PC programs that finally delivered.  There are much better programs now, but this one still is a favorite on my hard drive. 

#3 Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri or Civ Series.  The 2 are intertwined together so this really is just "one" game.   Sid is one of a kind!  I'd probably place SMAC above Civ just because of the sci-fi and how different the factions were compared to the civs.  I really should check out some of the latest Civ games.  I sort of burned out on video games around Civ3. 

#4 X-COM UFO   A little dated, but hey it has a special place. 

#5 Unreal Tournament.  Why do I put this above Half-life or other FPS?  Half-Life had some great multiplayer games, but I don't do internet games much.  I'd blow a fuse trying to co-ordinate something with the typical punk ass teenager yet alone a "group".  Both Half-life and Quake's single player game were entertaining, but not quite as compelling as Baldur's Gate 2.  And so Unreal Tournament simulated a fun multiplayer environment that could be enjoyed in single player.  I really enjoyed the way the game progressed and killing Xan, or whatever that final bitch's name was, was a gaming highlight for me!

.. wow 5 games goes by quick.  Red Alert/Yuri's Revenge Campaigns > Starcraft. Definitely Tanya > Kerrigan, so I had a blast with those.  Diablo2's "hardcore" concept (you die you lose everything) was pretty cool.  Fallout2, Master of Orion, Monkey Island,  Sim City, Populous.. yeah is it obvious how ancient these all are?

Played quite a few SNES console games with my nephew.  Zelda, Tetris, Wing Commander, and Soldiers of Fortune, and Blizzard's own Lost Vikings topping that list.
