lol whereas in Australia our (nominally) left-wing government still wants to force ISPs to filter "undesirable content" on the internet (like well respected countries such as China, Iran and North Korea do) even though as time goes on their plan is looking stupider and stupider and even the ISPs themselves are saying "no, that's a stupid idea, fuck you"
but then we're a geographically large, sparsely populated country in the middle of nowhere so slow internets and bandwidth caps on pretty much every available plan are par for the course anyway

there's some major infrastructure upgrade project in the works but last I heard it seems that'll take longer than they promised before the election as well

I'm not all too sure how easily possible it'd of been for the US government to take control over something like the "internet" and what filters through it to our country when you consider things like proxies or satellite connections. I think it only would of made other countries get more customers.
I am, however, impressed with the to remove ISP's limitations.
Also, Taer lives in Austrilia?

I think the 'internet', being essentially a US military project gone public, pretty much belongs to America, at least enough that the rest of the world wanted it 'moved' somewhere else.
