"Step forward. I will see that you are properly welcomed!"

Commander Sarannis was leader of the Bloodwardens, one of Prince Kael'thas' elite units. She likely participated in the assault on Tempest Keep, and was later placed in charge of its defences.

Having established a command post on board the Tempest Keep satellite, the Botanica, she prepared for the inevitable counter-attack by the naaru and their allies. Likely expecting the arrival of a Scryer or Aldor army, she seemed unprepared when a commando force of five adventurers stormed into her command post one day and killed her.

"Your skulls I will crack with all the might of Blackrock."

Goraluk Anvilcrack was an orcish blacksmith, member of the Blackrock clan and member of Rend Blackhand's Dark Horde. He was an old, and well travelled orc, having served the Old Horde in both the First and Second Wars. He may have also once been a member of Thrall's Horde, as he once travelled to Winterspring in Kalimdor, before returning to his clan.

While in Winterspring, Goraluk met the satyr, Lorax (no relation to The Lorax). Lorax, much like Goraluk, was a skilled blacksmith. Over his long life span, Lorax had learned many techniques, including the art of demon forging, which he offered to teach Goraluk for the price of his soul. Goraluk agreed, and the two set to work. Together they worked to create a demon-forged breastplate. When the breastplate neared completion, Goraluk, believing that he had learned enough to complete the item himself, fled, escaping with his soul and the unforged rune covered breastplate. Lorax, however, had withheld the final and most important step of completing the breastplate, however, and Goraluk, fleeing to the safety of Blackrock Spire, was unable to acquire the materials he would have needed to complete it.

Although Lorax was able to glean some satisfaction from the knowledge that Goraluk would be unable to complete the demon forged breastplate on his own, the fact that the orc had managed to make off with the item, and keep his soul, irked him to no end. A shrewd, blacksmithing adventurer of questionable morals, however, was able to solve his problems. The adventurer offered to retrieve the stolen breastplate, if Lorax taught them the recipe. Lorax asked the adventurer to throw in Goraluk's soul, and they had a deal.

Goraluk was killed, and the adventurer rammed a magical pike through his heart, claiming his soul. Lorax took his soul, as was promised, and in return taught the adventurer how to forge a demon forged breastplate of their own.

"Once I walked these halls with pride, holding my head high as an orc of the Blackrock clan. But this is a wrong path. Our hammers were meant to craft axes, swords... not these machines from the stranger's whispers."

In an alternate past Draenor, Goraluk Anvilcrack was an orcish blacksmith and member of the Blackrock clan. He had, however, become unhappy with the path that Grom Hellscream and Blackhand were leading the Iron Horde. He was a crafter of weapons and armour, not machines, and he certainly didn't trust this mysterious Garrosh fellow and all his secret knowledge. As a result, he defected from the Iron Horde, helping adventurers forge a Sigil of the Blackhand, which allow them direct access to Blackhand's inner sanctum.

"Enjoy! You won't find better ale anywhere!"

Plugger Spazzring was a leper gnome warlock, owner and barkeep of the Grim Guzzler in Shadowforge City, Blackrock Depths. Plugger was transformed into a leper gnome after Sicco Thermaplugg's disastrous attempt to take over Gnomeregan. With his home full of radioactive gases, troggs, and worse, Plugger fled the radioactive hole of a former city. Unlike most gnomish refugees, instead of fleeing to nearby Ironforge, Plugger chose to travel to Shadowforge City, where he opened a bar. The Grim Guzzler proved to be a huge success, and Plugger soon found himself to be a wealthy and successful gnome.

Unlike most leper gnomes, Plugger seems to have retained his sanity, and does not appear to be any more evil than he previously was.

Plugger was likely killed by adventurers when they tried to steal the key to the Grim Guzzler from him, and started a massive bar fight as a result. As a warlock, he likely had a soulstone prepared and returned to life after they were gone. Now that it is possible to bypass the Grim Guzzler completely, he's likely still alive.

"We are on a strict timeline. You will not interfere!"

Pathaleon the Calculator was one of Prince Kael'thas' lieutenants. He joined the blood elves shortly after the destruction of the Sunwell, taking part in Kael'thas' forces that journeyed west, to the ruins of Lordaeron and Dalaran, where they aided the remaining alliance forces there, under the command of Grand Marshal Garithos. Following Garithos' betrayal, Pathaleon was one of many who followed Kael'thas to Outland, and ultimately into the service of Illidan Stormrage. He likely took part in the assault on the Black Temple, and the failed attack on Icecrown. Upon their return to Outland, he took part in the assault on Tempest Keep, helping to wrest it and its satellite vessels from the control of the naaru. For his services, Kael'thas awarded him with the command of one of Tempest Keep's satellites, the Mechanar.

While his apprentice, Nethermancer Sepethrea, oversaw the day-to-day operations of the Mechanar, Pathaleon was in charge of various research projects of his master and his own. This included overseeing the effects of the giant, corrupted mana crystal Kael'thas crashed into Fallen Sky Ridge in the Hellfire Peninsula, the mana bomb project being developed at Firewing Point, and the manaforges, built using stolen naaru technology, scattered throughout Netherstorm.

Image
"Do you like what we've done here? Perhaps we will drop these crystals from the sky all over Outland."

As is always the case, adventurers began meddling in his affairs. First, adventurers sent by the Cenarion Expedition to investigate Fallen Sky Ridge. They found the giant crystal Kael'thas had dropped in the area, and observed the effects it had, corrupting the local colossi. With the aid of the Cenarion Expedition's druidic knowledge, the adventurers were able to quell the crystal's powers, despite Pathaleon's intervention in the form of siccing Goliathon, King of the Colossi, on them. Goliathon was killed, and the remaining colossi were freed from their influence.

Image
"I think that we should teach a lesson to both the Horde and the Alliance. One that they will not soon forget!"

In an act of revenge, Pathaleon turned to Firewing Point. Their new mana bomb was ready for testing, and so Pathaleon chose the Cenarion Expedition's outpost in Terokar Forest, the Cenarion Thicket. With the help of the local Broken draenei, they were able to smuggle the prototype bomb into the Cenarion Thicket, and detonate it. The resulting detonation result in the deaths of all but one druid within the grove, and the corruption of much of the local wildlife. The surviving druid in the Thicket, Warden Treelos, was driven irrevocably mad. Earthbinder Tavgren, a member of the Expedition who was away on business when the mana bomb was detonated, returned some time later and discovered the devastation. Desperate to find out what had occurred there, he recruited the aid of a passing adventurer. Together, they were able to unravel the mystery, and discover the truth about the mana bombs, who made them, and where they were being produced. Another, more powerful, mana bomb was already under production, one which Pathaleon intended to unleash on the Allerian Stronghold or Stonebreaker Hold. Adventurers interfered, and detonated the bomb, resulting in the destruction of Firewing Point, and saving the Alliance or Horde base. This marked the end of Kael'thas' mana bomb project, although his research into the devices was used as the basis for producing the much more devastating mana bomb that would be later used by the Horde to destroy Theramore.

Image
"We've had too many setbacks along the way: Hellfire Citadel, Fallen Sky Ridge, Firewing Point... Prince Kael'thas will tolerate no further delays. I will tolerate nothing other than complete success!"

With two large projects less to worry about, Pathaleon turned his attention to exploiting the naaru technologies of the Mechanar, leaving oversight of the manaforges to two of his subordinates, Commander Dawnforge and Arcanist Ardonis. Sure enough adventurers meddled once again, this time at the urging of the naaru-aligned Aldor and Scryers. This resulted in a series of acts of sabotage which caused further problems at the already problem-plagued manaforges.

Finally, adventurers attacked Tempest Keep itself, starting with the Mechanar. After fighting their way through Pathaleon's minions, they eventually reached the Calculator himself, and killed him.

"Sands consume you!"

Witch Doctor Zum'rah was a troll witch doctor and member of the Sandfury tribe. From within the ruins of Zul'Farrak, he oversaw the care of deceased members of the tribe, by mummifying the bodies, and then animating them to serve him as zombies. Many of these zombies wait in their shallow graves, for the day when their master calls upon them to serve, or else to kill anyone who'd try and loot the dead.

"You've been to Zul'Gurub? Did you see the fabled Gahz'ranka? Well... do you want to catch him?" -Nat Pagle

Gahz'ranka was a mighty hydra who once dwelt within the ruins of Zul'Gurub. Nat Pagle, renowned fisherman, once encountered the hydra when he was fishing there. While fishing for Zulian Mudskunk, he seem to have accidentally drawn the attention of the hydra, and it seems likely that the hydra then tried to catch him. Nat chose to leave Zul'Gurub quickly, leaving much of his camping gear behind, including his favourite measuring tape, and returned to his home in Dustwallow Marsh.

Sometime later, adventurers entered Zul'Gurub at the request of the Zandalari tribe to help stop the rise of Hakkar the Soulflayer. While exploring the ancient troll city, they stumbled upon the ruins of Nat's old camp, Pagle's Pointe, and found his long lost measuring tape. Suspecting that there may be a reward involved, they travelled to Nat's Landing in Dustwallow Marsh and returned the measuring tape to its rightful owner. Happy to have his favourite measuring tape returned to him, Nat told the adventurers about Gahz'ranka, and told them how to catch the beast. He offered to sell them a specialized lure to help them catch the Zulian Mudskunk, a rare fish found only within Zul'Gurub. With at least five Zulian Mudskunks, any skilled fisherman could easily lure the hungry hydra out of hiding.

Fishing adventurers agreed, and returned to Zul'Gurub with the special lure. They succeeded in luring the hydra out of hiding, and killed it.

Famed adventurers and ice cream inventors, Furor and Tigule, may have met their ends at the heads of Gahz'ranka, as Furor's eyepatch and Tigule's trident were found in the possession of the hydra. However, as other sources place them as having last been seen travelling to Outland, it seems more likely that they simply encountered the hydra, and lost those items when they were forced to flee.

"I am the serpent king! I can do anything!"

Lord Serpentis was the leader of the Druids of the Fang. Before his decent into madness, Serpentis had been one of Naralax's best student. Naturally, he had followed his master on his quest to the Barrens, and shared his master's goal of transforming it into a lush, verdant paradise. Serpentis dreamed of the day when he would follow in his master's footsteps, and teach a new generation of druids himself. In a way, the Emerald Nightmare has allowed Serpentis to live his dream, as once he was corrupted by its influence, he became the new leader of the Druids of the Fang. He lead the Druids of the Fang and his fellow Serpent Lords in a quest to take control of the Barrens, and spread the corruption of the Emerald Nightmare throughout the land.

Lord Serpentis was killed by adventurers when they ventured into the Wailing Caverns, putting an end to his mad snake-based plans of domination.

And in Neo-Zul'Gurub there's a bunch of vicious baby hydra.

Awwww. They sound adorable. If viewed from a safe distance and outside their aggro range.

"Guards, attention! We have visitors..."

Fathom-Lord Karathress was a naga commander serving Lady Vashj. He helped to command the naga forces station within Serpentshine Cavern, and in Zangarmarsh. He, along with his Fathom Guards, Sharkkis, Tidalvess, and Caribdis, were also tasked with holding and interrogating prisoners.

He was killed by adventurers when they stormed the Serpentshine Caverns. They also freed his current prisoner, Seer Olum, a broken draenei and member of the Ashtongue Deathsworm, who had been outed as a traitor. Olum's rescue ensured that the truth of the Akama and the Ashtongue's treachery remained secret long enough for Akama to enact his plans to overthrow Lord Illidan.

His WoWhead page is polluted with shitposters claiming he was named after Kara Thrace from BSG even though it makes absolutely no sense.

I suppose it's possible, but Blizzard is rarely, if ever, subtle about pop culture references. If that were the case, I'd expect all of Karathress' minions to be named after other BSG characters, and for at least one of his battle taunts to be a quote from the show. Yeah, I'm just not seeing it either.

Undead nerubians serve the Lich King unwillingly, but like the rest of the Scourge, they serve him well.

Tuten'kash was a crypt fiend in the service of the Scourge. He likely took part in the Battle of Mount Hyjal, and followed Amnennar the Coldbringer south, to Razorfen Downs, on his mission from the Lich King to establish a Scourge outpost in Kalimdor. He likely took part in the battle to claim Razorfen Downs, which mostly consisted of sitting back and letting the abomination, Tartek the Enraged, do all the heavy lifting. Once Amnennar settled in, Tuten'kash was tasked with guarding the main gate.

When he had been a living nerbubian, Tuten'kash had fought alongside his brethren in the War of the Spider. Tragically, he was injured and lost the use of his eyes. Unfortunately for him, his transformation into a crypt fiend did nothing to restore his vision, as a result he has chosen to make use of his webs to track intruders. Despite his blindness, Tuten'kash is fully aware of the location of any intruders within Razorfen Downs at all times, and knows exactly where to dispatch his minions to deal with them.

When adventurers attacked Razorfend Downs, and defeated his minions, Tuten'kash went to deal with them personally. This resulted in Tuten'kash's own defeat, and the adventurers proceeded deeper into Razorfen Downs, where they eventually defeated Amnennar, and forced him to retreat into his phylactery. Tuten'kash's fate is unknown. He may have been reanimated after his defeat, but is no longer present within Razorfen Downs. He has since been replaced by the giant spider, Aarux, who also has his old stash of loot. It's possible that his destruction was final, or he may have regained his free will following the fall of the Lich King, and wandered off somewhere.

"You will pay with your life!"

Exarch Maladaar was the sole surviving member of the original Council of Exarchs, the main governing body of the draenei prior to their conquest by the Orcish Horde. As Exarch, Maladaar was in charge of the Auchenai, the priests and paladins who defended and maintained the draenei necropolis of Auchindoun, and ensured the sanctity of the souls held within it.

Auchindoun, along with the rest of the draenic civilization on Draenor, soon fell to demonically corrupted Orcish Horde. Desperate to hold on to what little was left, Maladaar and the remaining Auchenai retreated to the depths of Auchindoun, to the most sacred crypt where the remains of the naaru, D'ore, were entombed. The final straw came when Grandmaster Vorpil and the agents of the Shadow Council who had taken up residence within Auchindoun summoned Murmur. The power unleashed by the primordial essence of sound shattered Auchindoun, and lay waste to the region surrounding it. The great necropolis of the draenei was left broken and ruined, with the remains of the dead, and the spirits of the now restless dead, strewn across the newly formed Bone Wastes.

Image
"You have defiled the resting place of our ancestors. For this offense, there can be but one punishment. It is fitting that you have come to a place of the dead... for you will soon be joining them."

Having seen his people slaughtered, their cities and temples razed or corrupted, their world destroyed, and finally witnessing the destruction of the site he was sworn to protect was too much for the Exarch to bear. Desperate to at least preserve the memory of his people, Maladaar turned to necromancy in a desperate bid to preserve what was left. To that end, he constructed Shirrak the Dead Watcher to help watch over the souls that remained within Auchindoun.

In time, however, the souls within Auchindoun began to conspire against him, seeking a way to save themselves from Maladaar's experiments in necromancy. Additionally, Horde adventurers, seeking a means to help the tormented souls of the ancestral spirits of the orcs at Oshu'gun, travelled to Auchindoun to seek the aid of the naaru, D'ore, who had been entombed there. Exarch Maladaar was killed, and D'ore released from his sarcophagus.

Image
"You were merciful in seeking my death. Forgive me..."

Using its mastery of the light, D'ore redeemed the mad Exarch's soul. Now freed from his madness, the spirit of Exarch Maladaar sought out the souls he had wronged, and asked for their forgiveness.

Image
"There is no turning back now."

In an alternate past where he had not yet suffered through the tragedies that led him to madness, Exarch Maladaar still leads the Auchenai. Betrayed by one of his own comrades, Maladaar had been captured by the Iron Horde, and tortured alongside the orc shaman, Drek'thar. The situation had seemed dire, until a group of adventurers came along, blew up the Iron Horde's Dark Portal, rescued him, Drek'thar, and numerous other draenei and orcish slaves the Iron Horde had captured in order to sacrifice to empower their portal. Together, they were able to escape the wrath of the Iron Horde's Warlords and retreat to the safety of Shadowmoon Valley.

Maladaar returned to Elodor, only to detect the taint of fel magic in the air. He enlisted the aid of the Alliance Commander who had helped rescue him from the Iron Horde to find the traitors, while he tried to convince the rest of the Exarch Council to lend their aid to the Alliance against the Iron Horde. The Council's deliberations were interrupted however, when one of its members, Exarch Hataaru, was found dead with a knife in his back. Maladaar sought to commune with Hataaru's spirit, in order to learn the identity of his murderer, however Exarch Akama refused to allow him to do so, feeling that Hataaru had suffered enough already and deserved his rest. Exarch Othaar was quick to agree with him. Unwilling to wait for a more conventional murder investigation, Maladaar took matters into his own hands.

Although the ritual was fraught with peril, Maladaar learned from Hataaru that another Exarch had orchestrated his murder. With the help of the Alliance Commander, Maladaar was able to uncover the treachery of Exarch Othaar, who now styled himself Socrethar. Concerned about the safety, and the possible presence of yet more traitors, Maladaar left Elodor to return to Auchindoun to see to the necropolis' defence.

Image
"The dead grow... fearful. Something truly dark is coming."

On his return to Auchindoun, he found it under siege by the forces of the Shadow Council and Burning Legion. The work of the traitorous Saregei was already apparent, as someone had disable Auchindoun's defensive shields, as someone had stolen the crystal that empowered it. With the help of the Alliance Commander, Lady Liadrin, and the blood elves, they were able to recover the crystal, and successfully repel the Burning Legion's attack. Unfortunately, they didn't realize that it was largely a diversion to allow Teron'gor to infiltrate Auchindoun.

With Auchindoun mostly safe, Maladaar and Liadrin travelled north, to Shattrath City, which was now under attack by the Burning Legion. Leading the Burning Legion's assault was none other than Socrethar, who had formerly been in charge of the city's defence when he held the position as Exarch. Together, Maladaar, Liadrin, and a Horde or Alliance Commander, confronted and killed Socrethar.

He also oversaw the trails given to Yrel when she sought to become an exarch and join the Exarch Council. He also helped to command the ground invasion of the Tanaan Jungle, breaking through the Iron Horde's defences in Talador and forcing the Iron Horde to split their remaining forces between three fronts.

you know the name draenor always irked me. like, imagine we're all hanging out on earth, and then an alien race shows up and just names our planet after themselves. Sounds very imperialist to me (think New England) but the orcs brutally slaughter and massacre em up and down and yet still refer to their ancestral homeland by the name used by the invading refugee scum. whynot just call it orcland or whatever. what did they call "outland" before draenai showed up? theyre all supposed to be super big with the primal forces and shamanism and things like that, you'd think they'd have a name for the "earth" that they walked on. i mean i guess it can be argued that its just the collateral of having everything ret-conned every 6 months but come on. i mean i know it was "draenor" before draenai were a thing (i'm thinking wc2 it was given the name right?), but then why call them draenai. idk, it bothers the hell out of me. always has. simplest solution is to slaughter them all, alliance filth

Yeah, I had the same thought when wandering around Outland one day. I never found the whole "the orcs adopted the draenei's name for their world because they didn't have one" to be all that convincing either. I think a better explanation for it would be that the Shadow Council pushed for using the eredar name for their world in favour of theirs as a way of further distancing the orcs from their shamanistic heritage, and it just stuck. But yeah, retcons, they make a mess of things.

Grand Widow Faerlina was a high ranking member of the Cult of the Damned, and oversaw the cultist congregation in Naxxramas. Prior to joining the cult, Faerlina had been a botanist. Upon joining the Cult of the Damned, she turned her talents toward the care and raising of spiders, as well as brewing powerful poisons for the Scourge. She now oversees the breeding and raising of the spiderling spawn of Maexxna.

She was killed during a joint operation led by the Argent Dawn and Scarlet Crusade against the Naxxramas while it was stationed above the Eastern Plaguelands. She was revived to serve the Scourge once more when Naxxramas relocated to Northrend, only to be killed by adventurers once again. She has likely recovered since, and has joined the Naxxramas Hearthstone Tournament as they wait patiently for new orders from the Lich King.

"Get her to poison you and come back to me! Then... I get to milk ya!" -Ragged John

Mother Smolderweb was a giant crystal spider who lived in Blackrock Mountain. While they were constructing their mighty fortress within the spire, the Dark Iron dwarves accidentally dug into her lair, releasing the massive spider and her terrible offspring. The dwarves were able to fight her off, and decided that it would be in their best interest to just let her have a small part of the spire for herself and her offspring. The uneasy peace between dwarf and spider lasted until the arrival of the Orcish Horde. They arrived, and were able to wrest control of Blackrock Spire from the Dark Iron dwarves and use it as their own base of operations. Foolishly, the orcs dared to tread in Mother Smolderweb's lair, and they were promptly eaten. Deciding the fighting the horrible giant spider and all of her children was a terrible ideas, the orcs followed the Dark Iron dwarves' example and stayed well away.

Ragged John, a dwarven rogue formally under the command of Marshal Windsor, had heard rumours of Mother Smolderweb from the Blackrock orcs while he was spying on them. Realizing the value that her deadly venom could have, he quickly recruited a gullible adventurer, and convinced them that it was in their best interest to get poisoned by Mother Smolderweb, and come back to him while the virulent venom still coursed through their veins. The adventurer did so, killing Mother Smolderweb along the way, and returned to Ragged John with the live sample. Ragged John was quick to get a sample out of the adventurer, and the proceeded to make a particularly potent ale with it.
