Don't mention BC and bad raiding experiences. God, that entire expansion and Strawberry Panic will haunt me forever.

There was that one time a boomkin talked trash about my filthy blues in raid chat. Then he proceeded to place significantly lower on the DPS charts. That always makes me giddy inside.

That's like every fresh 85 I ever made, with the exception that no one bothered to talk trash because they knew they were going to get destroyed.

Man, it's not like the game was ever the least bit difficult or anything. There's no trick to doing anything. You just push the buttons. I don't understand how people were universally so bad.

Today: The best dragon.

Image
"This place is under my protection. The mysteries of the arcane shall remain inviolate."

Azuregos is a blue dragon who once wandered the empty and ruined land of Azshara. Known to himself as the Bane of the Bitter Reaches, the Scourge of the Bay of Storms, and Lord of all magic in Azshara, Azuregos guarded the ancient Night Elf ruins in the region, particularly ruins of the city of Eldarath and the ruins of Mennar Academy. He was particularly interested in magical artifacts, and was known to collect them, both out of his own interest and to keep them out of the grubby hands of those who might misuse them.

He was also tasked by Malygos to watch over the piece of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands given to the Blue Dragonflight. Realizing that this would cause him nothing but headaches, Azuregos decided to give the shard to his pet "minnow", Maws (actually a shark). He would later given adventurers a guide on how to summon Maws, written in draconic that none of them could actually read, and force them to build an arcanite buoy out of various rare and hard to obtain materials in order to summon the "minnow".

Unfortunately, Azuregos was constantly harried by various vagabonds, particularly hunters looking to craft a magical quiver, and he was eventually done in by one of them. It was during this time that he met the Spirit Healer, Anara, and the two fell in love. As a result, Azuregos missed the Cataclysm, and all the goblins moving into Azshara and reshaping the landscape. He was eventually coaxed back to the land of the living by adventurers hired by Kalecgos to find him. Kalecgos had come to Azshara seeking Azuregos' support in his efforts to become the new Aspect of Magic and leader of the blue dragonflight following the death of Malygos, and to warn Azuregos that there was a hit-squad of black dragons after him. Azuregos didn't seem particularly considered about the black dragons, as he fully expected them to deal with themselves, but agreed to help anyway. With help from the goblins and adventurers, he took care of the invading black dragons, and drove them out of Azshara. He then began plotting on how to undermine Kalecgos' efforts to become the new Aspect of Magic.

In the end, Azuregos' efforts to prevent Kalecgos' ascension failed, and Kalecgos was named as the new Aspect of Magic. He's otherwise alive and well, but no longer a world raid boss. He's quite happy with that turn of events. He seems to be getting along well enough with the local goblin population, although his opinion on the goblin plans for the Mennar Academy Memorial Fuel Depot remain unknown.

All I remember about Azuregos was an entire raid following 1 person and half of them yelling "THEY RIDE SINGLE FILE TO HIDE THEIR NUMBERS".

"Celebras, my brother... he wanders, blindly inside, cursed by corruption." -Cavindra

Celebras the Cursed was a corrupted Keeper of the Grove who wandered about in the caves of Maraudon. He first came to Maraudon in an effort to free the trapped soul of his uncle, Zaetar, who had been killed by his children, the centaur. However, in time, Celebras succumbed the corruption within the caves and slowly went mad, his efforts seemingly for naught.

His sister, Cavindra, sought to redeem him. Rather than enter Maraudon herself and risk sharing her brother's fate, she instead tasked adventurers with retrieving the fragments of Celebras' scepter and finding some way to free her brother from his corruption. This tragically involved killing him, freeing his soul from his cursed flesh. Celebras would then aid adventurers by restoring his scepter, which would allow them to bypass most of Maraudon and skip right to the pretty parts of the dungeon.

Celebras is dead, but his soul redeemed, so that seems to balance out, I guess.

Today, we return once more to the Karazahn Opera House! Tonight...

"The better to own you with!"

The Big Bad Wolf is the star of the Little Red Riding Hood event in the Karazahn Opera House. Presumably he's some sort of magical construct created by Medivh for his own amusement during his occupancy of the tower, as it seems unlikely that a troupe of performers would want to live full time in a haunted tower, full of ghosts and demons. Unless they're some sort of cursed troupe of performers, doomed to remain in the tower forever, which actually seems pretty plausible because its Karazhan.

There were certain people. No matter how many times we went through that, would get killed the moment they were chased. You know, that ability that tells you exactly what to do when it occurs. That line is also the audio for the get the fuck away sound in DBM, people regularly die to those too.

If you ever needed a reason to lose all faith in humanity, no matter how devout you are, a week or two in this game does that without breaking a sweat.

You must stand your ground at all cost, HK! To flee, even if (especially if!) the game tells you to would be nothing short of cowardice. By standing up to the Big Bad Wolf, and not running away, those people were just proving how brave they were. Or not paying attention.

Ramps, LF1M.

"This may hurt a little...

Watchkeeper Gargolmar is a mildly cannibalistic fel orc member of the Shattered Hand Clan. He patrols the ramparts of Hellfire Citadel, where he keeps the watch, and seeks to deny entry into the citadel of all those who would oppose his warchief! Gargolmar routinely eats the hearts of his enemies. He was killed by adventurers when they stormed the Hellfire Citadel, and his sword-hand was taken as proof of his demise.

Gargolmar is the first boss Hellfire Ramparts, and the last one to be featured in the calendar. With him, we have now cleared Hellfire Ramparts!

"Bael'Gar resides in the depths of Blackrock: a being of pure flame, born of the fires of Ragnaros." -Cyrus Therepentous

Bael'Gar was a molten giant created by Ragnaros. He guards the Dark Iron Highway in Blackrock Depths, a mysterious highway that connects Shadowforge City to something mysterious to the west (I've always assumed it was an unfinished underground passage intended to connect Shadowforge City and Ironforge, but apparently it's supposed to be more mysterious than that?). Cyrus Therepentous, a black dragonspawn who lived in the Burning Steppes, once wanted Bael'Gar dead so he could consume his fiery essence, and sent adventurers to slay the fire giant and collect it. However, these days, the goblin Tinkee Steamboil wants him dead so she can find out what's behind the door he's guarding.

Bael'Gar got a much needed model upgraded during the Cataclysm. Despite looking much spiffier, he's probably still dead, most likely killed by adventurers sent by King Magni to "rescue" his "captive" daughter.

"Your resistance is insignificant."

Archimonde the Defiler was the supreme commander of the Burning Legions forces, and had led successful invasions of countless worlds. In the early days of the Universe, Archimonde and the Eredar terrorized and destroyed countless worlds early on, in their endless quest for more magic and power to consume. Their early rampage, however, was put to an end by the Titan, Sargeras, and they were imprisoned in a dark corner of the Twisting Nether. However, their battles with the Titan led him to begin to doubt himself, his mission, and the Titan's own goal of ordering the Universe. In his madness, Sageras decided that the only logical course of action was to seek to unmake the Universe itself and start over. To that end, he released the Eredar and the Nathrezim from their prisons, and recruited them into his new Burning Legion.

Wait. No. That's not quite right.

Archimonde the Defiler was the supreme commander of the Burning Legions forces, and had led successful invasions of countless worlds. Prior to being recruited into the Burning Legion, Archimonde, alongside Kil'jaeden and Velen, were the leaders of the Eredar and rulers of the world of Argus. Sargeras approached them, offering them power and the opportunity to help bring peace and unity to the Universe at his side. All he wanted in return was their loyalty. Archimonde and Kil'jaeden were quick to accept Sargeras' offer, however Velen had his doubts. Velen and his loyal followers fled Argus as a result, while the bulk of the Eredar readily accepted their new demonic powers, and membership in the Burning Legion. While Kil'jaeden swore to hunt Velen and the draenei to the ends of the Universe if necessary, Archimonde decided that he could care less. If Velen and the draenei didn't want awesome demonic powers, that was their problem.

After the failure of his first attempt to invade Azeroth, finding a way to destroy the world and those pesky Night Elves became something of an obsession for Archimonde. This ultimately led to him leading the second invasion of Azeroth personally. That, and he was fairly certain that he could take the remaining power of the Well of Eternity for himself, and take control of the Burning Legion for himself. Revenge and ultimate power? How could he resist? With the undead legions at his command softening up the resistance, taking Azeroth seemed like it'd be a fairly simple task. In fact, final victory was within his grasp when Malfurion unleashed a swarm of wisps on him and killed him dead.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpklIrmfxWA

Archimonde appears in WoW in the Battle of Mount Hyjal raid in the Caverns of Time, in which players get to reenact the final mission of WarCraft 3: Reign of Chaos in WoW. For a while, his bones were tangled up in the roots of Nordassil, the World Tree, however they were removed when Hyjal finally became (legitimately) accessible in Cataclysm.

Image

Finally, due to the strange 'alternate past' aspect of Warlords of Draenor, Archimonde is alive again. In the wake of the failure of Kil'jaeden and Manaroth's plan to corrupt the orcs, Archimonde has taken charge of the Burning Legion operations on Draenor, mostly focusing his attention on the draenei sites of Auchindoun and Shattrath City.

"Naturally, with my brother still alive, there may be some contention as to the primary beneficiary of the family's fortune."

Lord Alexei Barov was in life a noble of Lordaeron, and held the ownership of Caer Darrow, Brill, Tarran Mill and Southshore. Despite his family's immense wealth and power, he wanted more. Something Kel'thuzad was happy to offer. In return for their aid, and for supporting the Cult of the Damned, Kel'thuzad promised the Barovs more power, and immortality. Alexei accepted their offer, allowing Kel'Thuzad to establish Scholomance under their manor in Car Darrow, and within their family crypts.

Kel'thuzad ultimately delivered on his promises, though likely not in the way that the Barovs had imagined. The Barovs were killed and transformed into undead monsters, with Lord Alexei Barov rising as a Death Knight.

Lord Barov was likely killed by adventurers, and the deed for Caer Darrow looted from his corpse and delivered to one of his surviving sons. He was removed as a boss from the dungeon when it was revamped during Mists of Pandaria, and instead guides adventurers through the dungeon as a floating, talking, skull as he seeks to free himself and his family from the curse laid upon them.
