Today, we return to the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj with...

"There's a bug inside those walls that needs swatting!" -Frankal Stonebridge

Ayamiss the Hunter! He's a giant silithid wasp who brings food to the larvae so they can grow up to become big silithid wasps too! He was well known for chaining people to altars so they could be devoured by hungry larvae.

Now tameable as a hunter pet, Ayamiss' days of glory seem to be over. His only joy comes from catching a solo warlock or hunter who has their minion or pet out, allowing him to chain them to the altar to feed the larvae, and laughing at the minion's futile attempt to save its master from certain doom.

Tonight! Live from the Karazhan Opera House! We present The Wizard of Oz!

Image
"It will all be over soon!"

The Crone is the final part of the Wizard of Oz event in the Karazhan Opera House. Presumably she's some sort of magical construct created by Medivh for his own amusement during his occupancy of the tower, as it seems unlikely that a troupe of performers would want to live full time in a haunted tower, full of ghosts and demons. Unless they're some sort of cursed troupe of performers, doomed to remain in the tower forever, which actually seems pretty plausible because its Karazhan.

"You, too, shall serve!"

Archmage Arugal was a Gilnean archmage and a member of the Kirin Tor. Having survived the fall of Dalaran at the hands of Archimonde and the Scourge, Arugal fled west, into Silverpine Forest where he found refuge at the keep of Baron Silverlaine. Desperate to find some way to combat the Scourge, Arugal used the research of the wizard Ur to summon the werewolf-like worgen. Although initially successful in fighting the Scourge, Arugal lost control of his summoned minions, resulting in them turning on Arugal's allies. The worgen stormed Baron Silverlaine's keep, killing the baron and slaughtering the keep's occupants. Furthermore, the curse of the worgen was inflicted on Gilneas, which would eventually result in a significant portion of the population being turned.

Driven mad by his guilt, Arugal declared the worgen to be his children, took control of the keep formally held by Baron Silverlaine, renaming it Shadowfang Keep in the process, and continued his research into the worgen. He eventually mastered the ability to control worgen, as well as inflicting the curse on others, infecting nearby Pyrewood Village in the process.

As his worgen minions continued to be a persistent threat to them, the Forsaken eventually tasked a group of adventurers to deal with him. With his head taken as proof of the dead, the rest of Arugal's body was buried in an unmarked grave not far from Shadowfang Keep. That should have been the end of Archmage Arugal, however The Lich King had taken an interest in his work, and tasked four of his Darkfallen servants to raise the dead mage.

As a shade, Archmage Arugal traveled to the Grizzly Hills in Northrend, infecting the local human population with the curse of the worgen, and establishing a Wolf Cult in the service of the Scourge. The machinations of the Wolf Cult were uncovered, however, and adventurers tasked with his destruction, ending his existence once again.

Arugal didn't do too bad, and he got to live the dream for a little while, albeit a warped and twisted version of it. He wasn't doing too badly in 2009 either, having just gained about 56 levels, although he did lose his status as a dungeon final boss in the process. Since vacating Shadowfang Keep, its been taken over by a renegade faction of Forsaken, led by the former Gilnean noble, Lord Godfrey.

Good stats, and style! Arugal knew how to dress back in the day. Although the spikey shoulders might be a bit excessive.

Anyway, today we have our second Dragon of Nightmare!

Image
"Hope is a DISEASE of the soul! This land shall wither and die!"

Emeriss was one of the four Dragons of Nightmare, former guardians of the Emerald Dream who'd been corrupted by the evil force that had invaded it. She, alongside the other three Dragons of Nightmare, emerged from the Emerald Dream, intending to spread their madness and corruption into Azeroth. Since then, Emeriss has been killed in canon, and was removed from the game as of Cataclysm.

She's a big fan of mushrooms, and will use your corpse to grow one that will explode and kill your friends.

Considerably more corrupt than her previously mentioned peer, Lethon, Emeriss has taken a rotting and diseased appearance. Indeed, her corruption was so complete, that Tyrande's attempt to cure her of her corruption killed her, as there was literally nothing left of Emeriss to heal.

Today we continue this week's mushroom theme with...

Image
"Who dares violate the sanctity of my domain? Be warned: all who trespass here are doomed!" -Kel'thuzad

Loatheb! This fungal monster answers the age old quest of what would happen if you combined the Scourge's plague of undeath with a bog beast. Actually, no one ever asked that question, but the necromancers at Naxxramas answered it anyway!

Much like its peer, Gothik the Harvester, back in 2009 Loatheb was back at the top of its game: once again denying people access to healing in the newly relocated Naxxramas. Much like Gothik, with the fall of the Lich King and the new boss holding everything back, there's not much for a shambling undead fungal monster to do but play card games.

Alas, this week's mushroom theme is now over.

"We hunger for vengence."

Bloodmage Thalnos, no relation, was a blood elf mage and a former member of the Scarlet Crusade. Alongside Interrogator Vishas, he was tasked with ensuring the purity of new recruits into the Scarlet Crusade. However, somewhere along the line he seems to have been infected with the plague of undeath himself, and was tucked away in the monastery graveyard as just another skeleton in the Scarlet Crusade's closet.

While the Scarlet Crusade has suffered numerous setbacks, including being completely routed from their holdings in Hearthglen, Tyr's Hand, and Stratholme, not to mention the loss of the Scarlet Enclave and General Abbendis' defection and the formation of her "Scarlet Onslaught" in Northrend. Somehow, despite all that, the Scarlet Crusade has still managed to hold on to the Scarlet Monastery. Things have changed considerable in the Scarlet Monastery, and Bloodmage Thalnos is one of those.

Image
"No rest... for the angry dead!"

Now known as Thalnos the Soulrender the former blood mage has risen once more with a host of terrifying new powers, mostly related to the art of soulrending. However, he was demoted from being the final boss of the Scarlet Monastary's graveyard wing and is now merely the first boss of the new Scarlet Monastery instance, which combines the former Graveyard and Cathedral wings.

"The Underbog is a very dangerous place. I would not consider you a coward of you balked at going there." -T'shu

Ghaz'an is a hydra boss who lurks in the Underbog. They have three heads and spit acid. They're a hydra! There's really not much to say about this guy.

Monks just one-shot the entire Underbog at once with a single round house kick, don't they?

"It's about time you showed up!" -Baelog

Baelog, Eric "The Swift", and Olaf were a trio of dwarven adventurers hired by the Explorer's League to help secure the dig site at the ancient Titan city of Uldaman. They got got turned around in the ancient labyrinth, however, and are now known only as The Lost Dwarves. Friendly to Alliance adventurers, the Lost Dwarves are a boss encounter for Horde adventurers only. Only the Horde can benefit from their sweet, viking-themed loot.

As of 2009, they still remained lost in Uldaman. After the Cataclysm, however, they were able to escape Uldaman and made their way into the Badlands, where they help Alliance adventurers and agents of the Red Dragonflight rescue an uncorrupted black dragon egg from the clutches of Deathwing. Later still, they travel to alternate future Draenor, where they got lost again.

Well, my rogue had to solo/duo most of the mop dungeons because the game's community is completely inept. So, yeah. I think monks can trash just about anything until wod dungeons.

Today we've got the fifth and original Dragon of Nightmare, who left before they became famous!

Image
"I sense my grip on the Dream twisting into chaos."

The Shade of Eranikus is a ghostly manifestation of the green dragon Eranikus. He and his brother, Itharius, had been dispatched to guard the ruins of the Temple of Atal'Hakkar, deep in the Swamps of Sorrow, which was believed to be the site where the troll blood god, Hakkar the Soulflayer, would again be made manifest in the world. Despite being successful in destroying Hakkar's avatar and driving the troll priests out of the temple, the dragons had estimated the strength of the Soulflayer, and as a result Eranikus succumbed to the corruption within the Emerald Dream.

Adventurers later stormed the temple and destroyed his shade. With a resulting moment of lucidity, Eranikus attempted to purify himself using a near by essence font. This failed, and succeeded only in trapping his soul inside a trinket. The adventurers then proceeded to keep his tormented soul trapped in a gem because the quest chain to release him was unfinished.

Despite that setback, that wasn't the end of Eranikus. In addition to being tasked with overseeing the Temple of Atal'Hakkar, Eranikus was also the guardian of one of the pieces of the Scepter of the Shifting Sands, needed to reopen the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj. As a result, he was summoned from the Emerald Dream above Moonglade, and was successfully purified by Tyrande and a contingent of Priestesses of the Moon. He was later killed in battle against the Dragon of Nightmare, Lethon while combating against the Nightmare that had over taken the Emerald Dream.

Despite his death, Eranikus' shade still haunts of the Temple of Atal'Hakkar.

Yeah, I was disappointed about that. I had fond memories of collecting feathers from those troll priests. I always liked Sunken Temple, partly because of its seemingly complicated layout. Also, I had enough of a sense of direction that I could actually navigate in that place and not get lost consistently.
