"Under this bill you could go to jail for posting video of your friends singing karaoke..."

Yeah, I signed this last week. Just after an Internet censorship bill was shut down, they roll out with more of this cronyist garbage.

This one -might- get enough Internet attention but they'll just try again. At this point, the MPAA/RIAA is counting on the short attention span of people on the Internet to slip one through (and they did in the past).

You hear about this everywhere, especially on TL since it's very stream-heavy. For the most part it seems aimed at streams that make money (.e.g people like me would be totally uneffected), but the vagueness really leaves everything open for the lovely corporate abuse that Americans love.

Eh, there's certainly lots of Americans fighting it and many of the strongest groups opposing this like the EFF are in the US while pro-copyright laws are much more easily passed in the UK and France. I could see the ten strikes streaming bill passing just because legislators don't know what stream is but the three strikes bill probably won't, if only because the ISPs know they'll get sued from both ends if they start caring about every copyright request they get.

I am not touching that site.

The media industry funnels a lot of money to "certain" politicians, who are happy to use any excuse to expand government overreach. This looks like another tool to give the executive branch intimidation power through selective enforcement.

Eh? The petition is about stopping government overreach from the media industry.

Uh... I know that, and was referring to the bill with my comment. I'm just extremely wary of anything with "progress" or "progressive" in the name. And using the fist for a logo doesn't help.

It'll cause more harm than help if they miraculously manage to pass this bill. Discouraging the posting of movies and tv shows I can understand, but targeting any and all streams from video game LPs to karaoke is taking things too far.

This is what happens when they overlook "specification" which isn't too hard to understand.

I'm surprised Canada isn't home to Google.

We'd never allow Google to set up shop here, their internet service in particular would throw all of our ISP's out of business.

It took the backlash from all of them trying to implement UBB for ONE ISP to change how they did things.

Saw this on TL a while ago, and snickered. They won't get anywhere and there are ways to block ISP-directed jumps.

It's just the only way they can do it without getting outright sued by the ACLU, EFF, and every other group out there. This is going to be an ongoing war that won't end until the record companies and movie studios run out of money (or intellectual properties) to make their litigious interest groups worth it.
