Help "unproctecting" .SCM/.SCX files
Hate to sound noobish, but I was wondering if there is anyone who wouldn't mind helping find a way to "unprotect" .scm/.scx files.
That, or, make a patch or something of the sort to make the maps accessible via StarEdit or other editing programs.

Re: Help "unproctecting" .SCM/.SCX files
Whatever happened to people and using Google?
Alright, there are two methods. Hex Editing the .chk file of the map (Which I've heard messes up Extended Terrain) or using less effective programs (OSMAP, for instance)
There's a guide to Hex Editing the map here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage-6309.html
As to obtaining a program to do it, I can't really help you there. Normally I don't condone anything of the sort, but I'm going to assume that your reasons are benevolent. Besides, It's annoying how people protect their maps so that newbies to map-making can't dive into them and learn.
Hope that helps.

StarCraft there are alot more unprotected maps which are alot easier to view. The main protected maps are the VERY good WarCraft 3 maps such as Dota (which to me sucks), DoBRP's and what not.

Re: Help "unproctecting" .SCM/.SCX files
No, just about everyone protects UMS maps now. It really kills the community because there's not really an influx of new mappers (Well there is, but they're horrible) and most quality maps depend on the same people (Be it MM-Guild production or otherwise). There's not really any particular reason to protect them, besides to protect their high standards and not allow new mappers to learn secrets that they could ultimately learn on their own anyway, given the time.
Yeah, Chris, why don't you try editing the map I attached here? It's fairly old, but I know StarEdit will freak out.

It's kind of hard when you're on dial up, and either way, it's still worth a shot.Durandal-Thoth wrote:

The google page has one picture, a type in box, and about twenty words on it.
And it's not like clicking "Go" and waiting a minute or so takes ultimately longer then posting in a forum.

Touche, however it's just one of the maps, namely why I was asking for a program.Which I seem to not be able to find,Durandal-Thoth wrote:

since on Zerogamers, you have to go through some "sponsor" adware crap clearly stated in the "end user license agreement"
