Tileset Editing - I know it's possible...

Post by BacklitAvenger »

Back in the day (Waaaaay back in the day, think Purity of a Race and that Trauma guy, before everything went to hell) when I was working on my defunct TC I remember clearly that I changed the look of the creep through a tileset editor. I lost everything on my hard drive and the mod with it, and though I have googled and poked around on several sites including CC, I can't seem to find the program that allows one to do this. Could someone be a real big help to me and point me in the right direction? I'm seeking to replace the high ground in the desert tileset with the asphalt and high ground from the badlands in order to simulate two different sections of a small city on Korhal. The badlands asphalt is obviously the city center, and the more ghetto desert structure tile will be used for the outskirts. If anyone can point me in the right direction to the proper program or could offer any advice on how to do this manually if the program has been lost in the seeming decay of the old SC modding community, it would be much, much appreciated. I figure if anyone will know where to get it, it will be one of you guys. Blizzforums is great for SCII speculation and all but yall got the market on campaigns and mods and programs cornered.

Thanks in advance,

The program you're looking for is TileEdit, which is apparently not on CC's modding tools page anymore.

You can, however, find a copy over at SA's Modding tools page.

That old version of TileEdit is buggy, you should use the new tile editor, either TileEdit2 or Hawt Tiles (dunno which is the official name), by FaRTy1billion. You can get it here.

I get an error that comctl32.ocx or one of its dependencies is not registering properly: a file is missing or invalid. And it'd be nice to use the second program, because it looks to be long hard going the tile edit way. And asphalt shows up with the palette all fouled up in the desert, although the platform thing shows up find. And there's no bulk function, so I gotta replace every single corner by hand, and their numbers don't even match up. Blahhh... any idea about the .ocx would help.

EDIT: And I did google it and download the vbasic installer but that didn't help.

EDIT 2: Since tileset modification works through direct replacement, could I theoretically do the basic terrain with the old desert high ground dirt and then later make it proper with the new tile edit once I figure that problem out? I mean if worst comes to absolute worst, I can just use the badlands, but then I miss out on the groovy ghetto desert compound texture. And Modified textures add a very nice touch to campaigns in the same way, though much less essential as voicing your dialogue. It's just a slick touch, you know, since most people don't know how to do it.

Yes you can create the map then change the tiles you used.

Installing the VB runtime files should have worked.. Try just download comctl32.ocx and place it in the same folder as the executable.

Tile Editing is troublesome since each terrain, as far as I know, has their own seperate color pallets, so merging tilesets breaks that pallet, causing the weird effects.

Easily fixed in psp. Expect distortion, though.
