StarCraft: Whispers of Extinction

Post by Laconius »

Name: Laconius
Age: 68
Direction: A campaign set during the events of the Zerg storyline in StarCraft. This project will be produced for StarCraft: Brood War.

"Lend your conscience to me, Kerrigan. I am the Overmind, the hive entity that directs the motions of the Zerg Swarm. You must come to realize that you are the very prodigy of the cosmos. Its.. savior. For it is through your hand that the schemes of our enemies shall be brought to ruin. Our true enemies, whose presence lies veiled, do not take the form of the Terrans or the Protoss. Rather, they are the creators of my very being- the Xel'Naga. Know that the visions I hereby impart unto you shall spare you no agony of the grim future that I have foreseen. But you must endure, human. For the sake of all life, you must bear witness to the whispers of extinction."

Ha, yeah the battlecruiser really stands out as one of the nicest grabs. Although the Shadow Hunters book doesn't seem too shabby either.

I already have, twice. Listening to Mesk, I can't help but feel that making a quality campaign is such a daunting task! Especially regarding what he says about deployment of the story and the "show, don't tell" principle. And his comments on SCII were spot-on. Great stuff overall.

The only thing I really got from the podcast is that I started to understood why alot of good game developers tried to make their story as robust and simple as possible (like Brood War), it is simply because a good story sometimes could be way too complex to implement that either the game is screwed in terms of storytelling or that the game it self would be so radically changed that it wouldn't resemble the original plans.

While I do like me some Overmind, I can't say that I'm a big fan of most of the new canon established in SC2. That said though, if anyone can find a way through the twisted labyrinth of Blizzard's retcons and make it work, it's Laconius. Looking forward to see what you do with this.

Thanks! I look forward to emulating the amazing aspects of StarCraft 2's storyline into my new project. The prophecy aspect of Wings of Liberty simply blew my mind!
