REQUIREMENTS:
This contest will be the test of all ages. Prepare your witts, dedication, courage, and more for the creative mentality that you will set forth the next few months. Welcome, to the Campaign Creations Campaign Contest. All contestants participating will have to meet the following simple requirements to have a valid entry to this contest:
  • Your storyline must be original and unique and developed solely for this contest. It must be approved (via your thread) before being a valid entry. It cannot be a direct sequel to any prior storyline, however, may spinoff specific characters (so long as not affecting an existing storyline). Examples:
    • VALID: An original storyline involving characters partaking in their own unique journey.
    • VALID: A spin off on a character from a well known storyline, involving the characters's mission or journey for a side mission he or she chose to partake that did not directly affect the existing lore where he or she is from. (Example: Samir Duran, leader of the Confederate Resistance Forces, assigns a squad to join him in attempt to sabotage multiple Dominion supply depots.)
    • INVALID: A direct sequel to an existing story consisting of the entire cast and lore. (Legacy of the Confederation sequel, next Vile Egression chapters, a new Wonderers of Sorceria book, Heart of the Swarm)
    • INVALID: A spin off on a character where the main lore is affected. (Example: Samir Duran journeys through the sector unleashing Hybrids and disguses himself as Narud to acquire a special artifact.)
  • The choice of game is up to you, the creator. You may use one of the following Blizzard products to develop your story:
    • WarCraft III
    • StarCraft / Brood War
    • StarCraft II
    • Diablo 1 or 2
  • The length of the campaign is designated by the creator, however a direct ending must be made clear. (You cannot state that due to time constraints you could not finish your projects so you are only completing the first half.) The creator may leave a suspense ending such as a cliff hanger, however it must be clearly obvious that this was the intended ending at all times.
    • VALID: Samir Duran sabotages the supply depots and evacuates successfully.
    • VALID: Samir Duran's squad is held at gun point (by now the player is emotionally attached the crew), while Duran escapes, he boards his ship and instructs the pilot to evactuate. The answer to what happened to his crew is unknown.
    • INVALID: Samir Duran is imprisoned with what appears to be no means of escape.
    • INVALID: The player finishes a map with the final transmission of "Now, let's blow up these Supply Depots!" and there is no more maps to play.
  • Scheduled "check in" updates must be made at least once a month. Please keep in mind this in the most minimal amount of check ins, and more discussion will grant further points, a break down is stated in scoring.
  • There is NO software limitation, this is your creation, your story, your masterpiece. You design and perfect it with whatever means you must take. However, please be advised of the following realistic requirements:
    • Campaign must be compatible with current generation systems. (This includes running StarCraft mods on Windows 7.)
    • Campaign must not place the player's computer at risk.
    • Campaign must not endager the player's Battle.net account.
  • The creator understands that this is a complete campaign creation with enough time dedicated to go the extra effort, therefor additional extras such as music selection, vocal work, or artwork adjustment will directly affect judgment in a new category (POLISH), as well as how early you announced your project and how many updates you perform in your thread.
  • The creator understands the prior mentioned requirements and the following scoring system: The contest will be based off a scoring system, where one can acquire up to ten points based on each criteria: Text (Spelling, Grammar, Formatting, Dialogue, etc), Triggers (Complexity, Functional, Usage), Mapping (Categories: Layout and Beauty), and Professionalism (Attention to detail, lore, updates, and presentation), and Polish (Voice acting, music, ambience, graphics, artwork, "the extra mile," etc).
  • The creator will not, under any circumstances, utilize mods already created by someone else without consent of the author. In addition, all work must be original for map design, trigger work, etc unless citing a lore-relevant event. The creator will not plagiarize anyone else's prior or current work. This will lead to disqualification.

ACTIVITY DATES:
Contest Begins: November 21st, 2011
Contest Entry Cut Off Date: December 31st, 2011
Contest Monthly Updates Start: January 1st, 2012
Contest Ends: July 31st, 2012

PROCEDURE:
Project announcement on "Campaign Creations Campaign Contest" forum. Only one thread per contestant is allowed. First post will contain project information: Name/Alias, Age, Direction of Campaign (Story). Following posts will include any selected details of submitted project. At any time during the following months, contestants are required to submit development logs and screenshots of their project at any day of the week once a month. SAMPLE SUBMISSION:
Name: Lavarinth
Age: 26
Direction: I will produce a ten map campaign in StarCraft 2. It will feature Samir Duran prior to joining the UED, while still with the Confederate Resistance Forces, attempting to sabotage the Dominion's supply depots on various worlds. Operating in his ship, he and his squad will travel through various worlds to accomplish this task. During these missions, vigilante groups will either aid or attempt to capture Samir and his squad, and in addition face constant threat by an unknown Dominion commanding officer hot on their tail at all times, likely via a mole in his resistance group.

OFFICIAL CONTEST INFORMATION:
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. To enter, complete the procedures listed in the PROCEDURE topic above. To be eligible, entries must be completed and received on or by the closing date of the draw. There is no alternate form of entry, if you are unable to enter by the required means, you are unable to participate in this contest. Incomplete entries will be considered but most likely not accepted as a finalist. All entries shall remain property of their creator; however, rights to host on Campaign Creations for an indefinite time frame are acknowledged and supported by the creator.

Winner also has option to forfeit material prizes and accept digital prizes only (if available).
  6. Detailed contest rules applicable to this contest, including contest entry dates, how to enter, prizes, and procedures will be listed at the top of this post and may alter at any time.

  8. Campaign Creations reserves the right to withdraw or terminate this contest at any time without prior notice.
  9. Approximate value of prizes, if stated, may vary.
  10. One entry per person.
  11. Prize selection may vary on number of entrants and is not guaranteed to involve three winners of prize packs if quantity of participants is minor. The best effort will be made to allow all three prize packs.
  12. Winners understand that the total point value of their score must exceed 40 points to qualify for a prize pack, regardless of their place. (This rule is to encourage a well-rounded campaign, rather than abusing the scoring system.)

JUDGEMENT:
  • TEXT: Your project is a representation of yourself. “Blizzard quality” should be of your highest priority. Aesthetically pleasing formatting of text, proper grammar, punctuation and spelling are a must. The dialogue must be catching and attractive. Using a “real” personality instead of proper writing is a step further in immersing your player with your project. (EX: Someone will say in person “That aint right!” but will properly write “that is not right.” To connect players with characters, they must have personality.) This criteria is judged from a 1-10 scale, 10 being the highest score.
  • TRIGGERS: Triggers can range from a simple “Hello, world!” to a complete reenactment of an epic space war with explosions and so forth. With that said, this category’s points will likely go to the more creative uses of the editor's trigger (and data) system. The more complex the triggers, the higher the score. With complexity comes function, however, as the triggers must work. Finally- The trigger must also have a usage and not simply be pretty things to impress people. Don’t overdo your triggers to confuse your player. This criteria is judged from a 1-10 scale, 10 being the highest score.
  • MAPPING: Mapping is all about making things look natural. Doodads are a gift given to us to allow that to be accomplished. However the map must also function and because of this we have separated mapping into two categories: Layout and Beauty. Layout is the function of the map, does it work? In addition is it to triggers, story, etc. The beauty of the map is the aesthetic value of the map. Are trees varied and placed properly, does that rock look good there? All these aspects require this criteria to have two categories of ten points each. This criteria is judged from a 1-10 scale in both categories separately, 10 being the highest score, a maximum of 20 points total.
  • PROFESSIONALISM: Overall, your completed project will not solely be played because it was created. It must be presented properly and professionally to your potential players. Introducing someone to your project with a quick synopsis with a download link will quickly attract more players than a title and download link. Inside your project, players will continue playing if you follow through with your pitch and your attention to detail of it. In this situation, are you following the lore properly and are you getting a good grasp of the characters and how you are presenting them. This criteria also has a few points dedicated to monthly updates to define professionalism in keeping your potential players updated. Participating in the general community discussion as well as the entries of other participants will help make up lost points or grant minimal bonus points. This criteria is judged from a 1-10 scale, 10 being the highest score (with a possible max of 13 after 3 bonus points).
  • POLISH: A new category, polish will dictate the extra effort placed within your campaign. Most easily compared to importing new graphics and creating new attack and spell animations. Such actions are considered the "extra effort." Including voice acting (whether done by yourself, members of the community, or outsourced), music, and ambience (all audio aspects of your project) will also significantly boost your score in this category. This is what seperates a good campaign from a great campaign. This criteria is judged from a 1-10 scale, 10 being the highest score.
Overall these four will total to 60 points, and will be the basis for who gets placed where.

Wow, in this.
Great and Mighty Lavarinth, if I have an unannounced campaign with only a tiny bit done, may I continue that one in use for the contest? (I don't mean NOMAD, of course.)
Edit: By the way, you might have a little trouble ending the contest on July 31st, 2011. ::)
Oh, and happy birthday, Lav. :D

nice how while there's points for text, professionalism and polish there are no marks strictly for quality of the plot lol

I don't think Tiperent would mind, probably because no one with that name is associated with this community.

Three marines, then!

Also, while I intend to do all the text/triggers/mapping and the actual dat/bin-editing modding myself, I assume we're not restricted with the sources we use for voicing, music & sprites for polish - they could be self-made, someone else commissioned to make them, or stolen from some other game like every other campaign on CC has (D:) right?

I'm in.

A few (almost rhetorical) questions:
*Are teams allowed?
*Are custom resources (models, textures, etc.) created by authors other than yourself allowed? If yes, does this apply to both resources created prior to and after this contest's start?

Thanks in advance.

Teams: You are allowed to work with individuals, however only one may submit an entry and he or she will be the receiver of the prize package if they win. In this event, the main winner must send items out themselves after if the partner(s) request any of the items per their agreement.

Resources: You may use any resources with proper credit and (preferably) acknowledgement that it was alright to do so. The resources may have been created at any time, the only requirement for something to have been generated post-announcement of the contest is the story itself.
