Dark Swarm SE Download! (UPDATED!)

In a couple of days, I'll be releasing something I should have finished a year ago. Last year I was working on a special edition of my first and only contribution to the SC community ever, my baby Dark Swarm. I redid everything from scratch -- maps, voices, even the plot. I didn't get past level 4, but it makes for a good cliffhanger anyway. User thebrowncloud helped me A LOT last year. His feedback and beta testing made Dark Swarm into what it was always supposed to be: fun and a bit cool. I like to think we succeeded!

For those looking to play some custom Starcraft 1 material, nothing too fancy but a cool story and good voice acting, it'll be here this week!

Bye bye.

Update!

Download Dark Swarm SE here!

(In case the standard executable doesn't work, download Eredalis' Firegraft patch!)

Feedback appreciated!

This is excellent news! Here I was thinking you wouldn't touch that campaign again, thankfully I was wrong. May I ask what sparked the creative fires back again? In any case, I'm stoked!

It's been sitting on my computer for a year. I've always liked it a lot, but with Starcraft 2 coming out and all, I thought nobody was waiting for any of that old stuff any more.

I hope I was wrong.

Starcraft 2 fell flat on its face the moment they showed the editor in beta. No reason to abandon work on your campaign bro.

I figured anybody with some common sense would say SC2's missed its chance at becoming legendary like SC1 in terms of campaigning/modding.

A strong foundation is important to everything. If you have no foundation all things thereafter will suffer. This is true with all walks in life.

That's really, really cool, Legion. Thank you for your work. :)

Do you have used WinMPQ and MPQ Draft to create the executable file?
This is not so advisable. Although I don't know why, but using this combo bred problems for some players like not-shown portraits or non-functional music. Or in my case: It doesn't starts. The error message indicates: UNABLE TO LOAD TARGET PATCH.

I know the problem very well and therefore I have extracted your custom content and load it into a Firegraft archive, for better compatibility.

Yeah, I used WinMPQ to compile the datafile. Is there any way you could make your fix permanent? Maybe it's just a piece of cake for you and it'll help more people play the custom content. It'd be really cool to have the portraits and music/voices working.

Never heard of those problems before Eredalis.

See above for download link. :)

P.S. Have fixed also the "thank you" sentence in my post. D:

Thanks to IskatuMesk I've found out last year, that the way with the Firegraft archive is much more compatible for players who use XP, Vista and Win 7. You are to be definitively on the safe side, trust me...

No, really, I don't recall mpqdraft having issues with portraits and music...? Maybe I'm just senile. I recall an older version of mpqdraft had some issues with DEP or something but that was fixed wasn't it?

I don't know. Maybe Shadowflare puts her head into this thread and can tell us something about that, but all I can assure you from my latest experiences, that there ARE problems with the WinMPQ/MPQ Draft combo for several players. This could maybe caused by the fact, that MPQ Draft is less up-to-date than Firegraft.

Ooh, I see the difficulty for the missions has been increased. I actually got owned a couple of times.
