Map - Omega Aftermath

Post by omega20 »

Well, I want to make a campaign with this map as its introduction, but as I don't know if I'm going to have the time or the patience to do it, I'm not going to promise anything. What I can promise you is that you can play this map. You can play this map because it's ALREADY FINISHED (how strange, this is the first thread I post in the StarCraft forums with at least one map finished :P)

The events of this map take place JUST after the Omega mission, with the defeated UED, Dominion and Protoss fleet attempting to escape from their doom. This time you don't play as the Zerg. Actually, you almost can't play in this map (it is mostly a movie map, with its music, its sounds, its flashy ships, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera). However, you can play at a moment of the map (very little, but at least you play).

Here is the prologue of the map (and with luck, it'll be also the story of a campaign...). This prologue is also in the map's briefing, but anyway... :)
PROLOGUE
As the combined forces of the Protoss, the Terran Dominion, and the UED were defeated atop the space platforms above Char, a man watched in terror. He saw the remnants of the United Earth Directorate flee the platform, only to be chased by the Zerg. He saw the bright flashes of the Protoss psychic abilities, and the deep blue spherical warp portals as the Protoss warriors began to retreat via recall. His own men, being relentlessly slaughtered by the Zerg. He had been defeated, once again. The words echoed through his mind...

Sarah Louise Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades. Arcturus Mengsk could not forget what she had said to him on Korhal. She had been correct. If he didn't betray her at New Gettysburg, this... none of this would have happened. Though too prideful to admit it, the man knew he had been responsible. Just out the large window, he could see his men. Or rather his "associates" that he had rallied to take out Kerrigan.

Arcturus Mengsk now faced another problem. In fact, two problems. He had to answer for his defeat at the hands of the Zerg. Surely, the people who provided him with their men and equipment want those back, and the reassuring news that Kerrigan had been dealt with. It was not going to happen.

The second problem he faced was rebuilding his shattered empire. With the remainder of his fleet, very little of which were actually Dominion forces, they would never be able to stand up to the swarm alone.

The man's eyes winced. He could not set aside what was said to him by Kerrigan on Korhal. She had not only physically defeated his forces, but she had mentally crippled his resolve. No matter how many Zerg were killed in the previous battle, they would all be replaced soon. The Terran and Protoss were a different story, of course...

CHARACTERS
[imgwh 250x250]http://www.starcraft-overmind.ic.cz/sc2 ... mengsk.gif[/imgwh]
Arcturus Mengsk, Terran Dominion - 39
Emperor of the Terran Dominion. An empire which have been greatly weakened in the past months. At first by those who called themselves the "United Earth Directorate". At last by the treacherous Sarah Kerrigan, his once second-in-command on the Sons of Korhal. But that was before he betrayed her, leaving her alone on the Confederate-infested world of Tarsonis. He knew that he was the only responsible of that. And he knew that he was the only responsible of the death of hundreds of thousands of both protoss and terran lives. He was too prideful too admit it, however.

[imgwh 250x387]http://www.scraftwiki.net/images/thumb/ ... rrigan.jpg[/imgwh]
Martha Williams, Terran Dominion - 31
As the youngest Dominion General (and most likely the youngest Terran woman to achieve that rank), she has served under Mengsk's flag even before the formation of the Sons of Korhal. After General Edmund Duke's death over the desertic planet of Korhal IV, she has become Mengsk's most trusted soldier, usually accompanying him in the new Dominion flagship, the Leviathan. She achieved the rank of General given the fact that she has never lost a battle (well, the lose of General Duke also was an important factor, of course). His abilities and skills in combat resemble that of a Ghost, despite she isn't possessing any psionic or psychic power. Earning the position of the late General Duke, she has been present in the final battle of Char, the last late of the Brood War. While she hasn't lost a battle since she is on military service, there is always a first time for everything, right?

[imgwh 300x234]http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/58 ... _large.jpg[/imgwh]
Gerard DuGalle, United Earth Directorate - 64
Admiral of the once powerful and dominating United Earth Directorate expeditionary fleet to Koprulu. A fleet that had failed in their mission of take control over the sector. A fleet that had failed in destroy the Zerg because the arrogance of its admiral. A fleet that is now being crushed to ashes by the Zerg over the former UED main stronghold of Char. A world that is now the throne world of Sarah Kerrigan, the self-proclaimed Queen of Blades. Really, Admiral DuGalle hadn't many choices after being defeated on the space platform called as Char Aleph. If he decided to stay in the sector, its fleet would be destroyed by Kerrigan's wrath. If he decided to return to Earth, its fleet would be too destroyed by Kerrigan's wrath before it could even exit from the Koprulu sector. His destiny, and that of his men, is as dark as the heart of the woman who ruled over the Swarm.

Sarah Kerrigan, Queen of Blades, Zerg Swarm - 27
Only God knows what had happened to this woman. From strange Confederate experiments on Zerg to her infestation and assimilation into the Zerg Swarm, her hatred for the Terran race has become total. Before her infestation, she fought for the Terran freedom against the corrupt Confederacy. She thought that not all the Terrans were greedy and corrupt creatures. She thought that the Sons of Korhal, and mainly its leader, Arcturus Mengsk, were the exception. She believed Mengsk to be her teacher. Her friend. Her new father. But upon Mengsk's betrayal on New Gettysburg, she learnt how mistaken she was. It was the only good thing the Overmind did for her: he opened her eyes. And now, victorious, with the destiny of all the races of the Koprulu sector at her hands, she at last can show to the other "lesser" races the power of her wrath. The power of revenge. The power of the Swarm.

CURRENT STATUS: *INFESTED*

Yeah, I know. That's because the main music theme, that its 6 minutes long. I'm now working to fix that, or at least to change that music theme for another shorter.

EDIT: Hey, great news! I've managed to optimize both music themes, and the map is now only 24 MB. But before uploading it, I'm going to search for any bugs, and it'll take some time. So, for now, you would only can download the 85 MB map (or the 4 MB map, as you wish). I'll upload the new one soon.

EDIT: Old links changed by the new ones.

I don't think custom music is ever worth an added 20 Mb if it's a standalone map. If it's a campaign, there's not much you can do, you only find out later when you look at the files and discover the creator added entire songs to their maps, but I'd never download a single Starcraft map that is over 10 Mbs.

About the map, I really liked what you did, taking an existing storyline and throwing in some own material. I did that with a map that details Aldaris' discovery of Raszagal's betrayal. It's cool, so I WILL download it!! ... just not the big one.

Over 20 MBs? I'm pretty sure some CI maps were over 20 MBs.

I doubt you have dial-up, Legion, what's the big deal? Haha.

20mb is childs play in 2009. Use 7zip to compress your files where necessary and don't worry about it.

CI was a campaign. This has yet to become one. Plus I only downloaded CI when all maps were there. It's one of those things I do.

No, I have wireless and pretty fast, but I can never be arsed to download 10+ Mb maps. No SC map can be worth 20 Mbs imho. It's me, I know, but I'm always like, why is this so big? Cos of music? I have Limewire!! :D

Sorry for being so boring.

This will be a campaign. And CI was released in maps, not packages, some over 20 MBs, I'm sure. *Checks* Yep, 27Mbs.

Talking about campaigns. Most of Meta's maps *cough*Flame Knives*cough*Aeon of the Hawk* are over 10 MB, many of them almost reaching 20 MB. And if I recall correctly, they were all music and sounds.

Yes, you're right, this is not a campaign now. But, as I've said before, I don't know if I'm going to finish this campaign and because of that I've only released a map. The only map that is finished. THIS map. I don't want to repeat what happened with my two previous campaigns, and because of that I'm going to release the maps one by one.

Of course, you can wait until the entire campaign is finished, but it is possible that it doesn't happen.

k, I feel the need to explain myself again. I never said I dont wanna download big files in general. I said I dont wanna download 20 Mb stand-alone (not being part of a series eg. campaign) maps that are 20 Mb cos of music. If its big cos of your own recorded material (voices/your own music) sure, obviously. If its big cos of uncompressed music from a movie, no thanks, not for me please, I'll wait for the lite version.

That having said, this was just an opinion, casually flung at you to tag along with what Whiplash said, but nothing more. I downloaded your map, omega20, and I like it. Dialogue's good -- Martha is interesting...

Ok then. I'll attempt to finish the entire campaign so you can download it with the music. :) It is good to see that, at least, you liked the map. Please, remember to inform me about any bug you find.

Hey! Thank you both so much! :) I'm now writing the prologue for the first map, as well as adding the information of the new character appearing in it.
PROLOGUE (FIRST MAP)
*BAM*

The gunshot could be heard throughout the rooms closest to the Admiral’s quarters. A pistol shot.

Several men came running down the corridor, past the confused security guard in front of the Admiral's room. What the men saw was the dead body of Gerard DuGalle, and a Luger pistol had fallen to the floor. A sad song on an old record player came to a stop. A man picked up the weapon, examined it, and burst into a fit of anger. He ran out of the Admiral’s quarters in the corridor.

He attempted to search for the responsible of that shot. The responsible of the death of Admiral Gerard DuGalle. But at the end, no one could deny the evident.

He had committed suicide. And just when this was discovered, the intercom sparked to life: A man, attempting to speak with the now dead Admiral, was terrified. A wave Zerg was advancing. But the only thing that he could heard was the silence. Everyone in the room was still. No response by Admiral Dugalle...

In the outside the destruction was total. The Alexander was being hit hard, the Mutalisk acid tearing through the hull. It would not be long until the ship exploded. Around the Alexander, occasional squads of Wraiths and Valkyries flew by, trying to hold back the advancing Zerg. The other Battlecruisers were taking a beating as well, and one even exploded, sending a shockwave of energy to nearby Battlecruisers. Many ships managed to escape to a nearby planet. But while they do so, they were in terror as they watched the once powerful and dominating United Earth Directorate being crushed to ashes.

Meanwhile, back in the Char Aleph platform, something has happened. The Leviathan, the new Dominion flagship, managed to get through the Protoss Warp Gate, and entered into warp space with a very small Dominion force. They were alive. They had survive. But Mengsk can't stop of remembering. His mind was full of ghosts of the past. He had managed to keep a strong control over them, but there was still one, one of those ghosts who yet again, managed to elude his will. That Ghost was Sarah Kerrigan, the self-proclaimed Queen of Blades and officially, the new ruler of the Koprulu Sector.

As the Dominion fleet begun to set a course for Korhal IV, Mengsk needed a new plan, and quickly.

NEW CHARACTER
[imgwh 300x150]http://files.fobby.net/0000/4ae3/Evil%20Eyes.png[/imgwh]
Cerebrate Shimrra, Zerg Swarm - Unknown
Exactly when Shimrra came into being is unknown, but regardless of its origins, it followed Daggoth's Renegade Swarm after the destruction of the first Overmind, coming under the control of its successor. However, Kerrigan was able to sever the Cerebrate's ties not only with its brethren, but with the Overmind itself. Kerrigan was now its new master. Under Kerrigan's orders, Shimrra has worked with late Praetor Fenix, rebel Captain Jim Raynor and Emperor Arcturus Mengsk in order to defeat the UED. But after Korhal was liberated from the Directorate, he was ordered to destroy Mengsk's and Fenix's forces in Augustgrad, killing General Duke and Praetor Fenix themselves in the process. Shimrra led Kerrigan's forces against the enemies of the Swarm in the Char Aleph platfrom, ultimately gaining the upper hand and defeating the combined UED/Protoss/Dominion fleets.
