For the record, this information was placeholder and NOT the official requirements for StarCraft II. Amended, per Blizzard's request.

I love how Blizzard responded with seething comments to people linking to requirements THEY had on THEIR site with NO notice of it being a placeholder, only screaming and flailing when people started realizing OMG REQUIREMENTS ON THIS PAGE!!!!!!!!!!!111 Blizzard's fail, not ours.

Dragon Age is 15.1GB.

Wasn't the beta for Age of Conan something like 28gb? I know it was really big.

Wow also has very basic materials, whereas SC2 looks like it was specular, normal, and diffuse maps, not to mention that Alpha is very likely (thats how they did team colors in WC3).

So if a texture for each object in the game, is 1 MB (unlikely) then do 1 MB * (# of units, doodads, terrain textures, etc) * 4 = and thats how much textures take up, roughly.

SC2, a much shinier game than anything blizzard has ever made.
Now with 50% more lol, 50% more win, and 100% phlail.

Theres 5 games I have installed that are 15gb's or more and they are all RPG's with Sacred 2 breaking 20gb, everything else is 10 or less.

Still can't find an RTS that breaks 10gb without expansions, most of SC2's texture size would end up coming out of story mode.

Blizzard could just be pulling a WC3 and not compress anything but models/data meanwhile everything in WoW is compressed with a magnitude more assets.
For Starcraft II, any opaque model rendered will store the following to multiple render
targets bound in its main render pass:
• Color components not affected by local lighting, such as emissive, environment
maps and forward‐lit color components;
• Depth;
• Per‐pixel normal;
• Ambient occlusion term, if using static ambient occlusion. Baked ambient
occlusion textures are ignored if screen‐space ambient occlusion is enabled;
• Unlit diffuse material color;
• Unlit specular material color.
Alpha is not a texture BTW.

You really have no idea how badly anything like that would run on 128mb of video memory as recommended.

no, not a texture, but it is an additional layer of data in a file. :)

According to that list, theres more than I thought.

The discussion as to the size of the game is still going on? It's going to be released on DVD, there's the max size it'll be, with all singleplayer included, bam.

Maglok calling shotgun on a boat.  That's very confusing.  Since the boat has the steering wheel on the passenger side.  But Maglok is also from Europe, where they drive on the wrong side of the road.  Tell you what, I'll just give you a shotgun, and you can sit in the back and shoot shit with it.
