Legacy of the Confederation III - Characters - Xanon

BIO:  Among those in the rogue tribes who refuted the teachings of Khas following the Aeon of Strife, Xanon joined his brethren Zeratul and others in exile from the Protoss empire. A fierce warrior, Zeratul and the dark templar Matriarch Raszagal restrained Xanon's bloodlust on more than one occasion. It was not the exile which drove Xanon to his rage, but the apathy and indifference in which the Judicators of the Conclave decided it. And when the Conclave's scouts encroached into the sector around the dark templar world of Shakuras, Xanon more than happily dispatched them for encroaching upon 'his' airspace.

Once the Overmind conquered Aiur and drove the Protoss to evacuate to Shakuras through a warp gate, Xanon became further enraged. Not only had his people been persecuted and exiled by the Conclave, now the Matriarch Raszagal offered the persecutors sanctuary. Many dark templar shared this view, including one named Ulrezaj. Xanon did not hesitate to join the 'Fist of Ulrezaj' and serve as a devoted acolyte and follower of his new leader until such time as the Protoss of Aiur were driven off of Shakuras or destroyed. Ulrezaj eventually allied with a Terran named Schezar to hatch a two-fold plan. First, Ulrezaj established a hidden orbital platform over Shakuras upon which he erected a warp gate. Upon the Zerg infested world of Char, Ulrezaj had tamed several legions of Zerg using Khaydarin crystals which he then intended to warp through the gate to Shakuras and enhance further with the crystals. The Zerg were to become immune to the effects of Shakuras' Xel'Naga temple, catch the 'high born' Protoss in the open, and destroy them. Zeratul's forces shattered this plan.

The back-up plan was Schezar and his 'Scavengers.' Schezar had created a planetary EMP generator which he transported to Ulrezaj's orbital platform. The generator was to drain the psionic power of the 'high born' Protoss and render them defenseless. Zeratul's forces engaged the Fist of Ulrezaj and Schezar's troops and defeated both. During this final battle, as Xanon cut down Zealot upon Zealot, a dragoon's energy sphere caught him from behind and knocked him to the ground. As Xanon lay stunned, a Zealot stood over him and readied his psi-blade for the final strike. Xanon met the Zealot's gaze as it yelled, "Now you die vermin." A blue shimmer erupted from the Zealot's chest. He screamed and folded over as another Zealot behind him retracted his own psi-blade, having impaled the other warrior. The Zealot extended his hand, "No matter what you may have done in your journeys with Ulrezaj, no Protoss deserves to be slain while helpless. Let me help you to your feet so we may engage as warriors."

Xanon accepted the gesture for aid but did not engage, asking only one question before leaving the battle, "What is your name, Zealot?"

"My name is Mallock. And you, dark one?"

Xanon adjusted some of the bent plating of his armor, as if it would help undo the damage from the countless battles it had seen, "Xanon, a former follower of Ulrezaj, and a disgrace to the Protoss ideal. I owe you my life, friend. When you find yourself in greatest need, I will be ready."

With that, Xanon departed the battle. Ulrezaj, with his forces in full retreat, confronted Xanon. "You showed mercy upon an enemy that knows none," said Ulrezaj. "I wish to experience that...a conscience. Join in the merging and become the eighth dark templar in this form and I shall forgive your transgressions this day." Xanon turned his back and continued in his march toward an unknown future. "You are excommunicated, Xanon!" shouted Ulrezaj. "The Fist will not give welcome to cowards!" No Protoss, high-born or otherwise, saw Xanon for the next seven years.
