Legacy of the Confederation III - Characters - Karla Wainwright

BIO: Wainwright was born on the Confederation colony of Beta (Proxima) Centauri and resided there until graduating from Heald University. Rather than serving the required two years in enlisted military service in the United Military Command like most citizens, Wainwright applied and was accepted to Officer's Training School where she graduated second in her class three years later. She wasted no time proving herself in the field upon her first shipboard assignment. As an Ensign aboard the CFS Larkspur, she was part of a task force which was charged with hunting down the Pirate Remus and dismantling his R&D capability (otherwise known as Operation Black Mamba). With Wainwright's acumen in Stellar Cartography and her keen tactical mind, she was able to both find the pirates' bases and devise mission plans which disabled enemy defensive positions with zero Confederation casualties. While Remus himself was never captured or killed, the mission successfully destroyed his ability to conduct biological weapons research, making it a decisive victory. As daughter
of Senator Charles Wainwright, Karla's successes combined
with her political connections enabled her to rise through
the ranks extremely fast, bypassing officers with twice
as much experience on her way to the admiralty. Once given
her own task force, Karla (Rear Admiral at the time) successfully
engaged and disabled a rogue Confederation battleship
without losing any members of her own crew or taking the
lives of those on the opposing vessel. Karla commanded
task forces for seven additional campaigns over the course
of a five year period, eventually earning the rank of
Fleet Admiral upon the retirement of her predecessor. Some in the political arena argue that Karla's unwillingness to sacrifice soldiers in the field was a weakness that a more vicious enemy would exploit. The war with the Zerg, unfortunately, has proven that claim to be at least partially true. For this reason, Wainwright selected Admiral Mustapha Ra'Chek, a ruthless and tactically brilliant officer, to oversee her fleet's daily combat operations. Karla in turn focused on global strategies and fleet initiatives. |
