BIO: Raging for hundreds of years, the Protoss Aeon of Strife was dominated by the Akilae tribe. Representing the strongest fighting force among the Protoss culture and who were themselves entrusted with the 'Uraj' crystal by the Xel'Naga, their enemy, the Sargas Tribe, could not repulse the onslaught of Akilae Zealots and Dragoons. The Sargas Tribe, largely consisting of templar, previously supported the Akilae on the front lines through attacks of the mind such as psionic storm. Akilae infantry engaged the enemy and Sargas templar attacked from a distance. The templar could not survive in melee combat however without merging themselves into archons, but the archons were too few in number and so the Sargas lost battle upon battle for centuries. As the Sargas became more desperate, a templar leader named Drealan proposed enhancing the power of the archons. Drealan suggested that the rogue tribes be engaged as they too had templar and also were losing their battles against the Akilae. But whereas the Sargas templar had knowledge of light energies, the rogue tribe templar had knowledge of dark energies. Drealan parlayed with various rogue tribe leaders and suggested a temporary alliance, in which Sargas and rogue templar would merge, creating archons which contained the aspects of both light and dark. And thus the Twilight Archons, a merging of light and dark, were born. In one case, Vaeregoth's, five templar (three light, two dark) were able to merge together into a single archon. Despite Drealan's best efforts, he could not repeat this for future mergings leaving all other Twilight Archons to have two templar (one light, one dark). Vaeregoth was among the first but with the success of Twilight Archons in battle, many more were created. The templar leader Drealan commanded the Twilight Archon legions and used them to devastate Akilae opposition. The Akilae, having grown complacent after hundreds of years of victories, reeled from the Twilight Archons' power and surrendered entire regions in strategic withdrawal until such time as a counter attack could be developed. Drealan pressed his attacks for two decades until finally Khas appeared to put an end to the Aeon of Strife once and for all. The Akilae leaders and some of the most noteworthy Sargas templar leaders (such as Drealan) joined the Judicator caste to form the Conclave. The rogue tribes refused to accept the teachings of Khas and were exiled by the Judicator. Though the rogue tribes were key to Drealan's Twilight Archon campaign, he reminded them that their alliance was 'temporary' and stated that, "Your usefulness is only determined by your loyalty. You are disloyal to our ways, so you are no longer useful." Many Twilight Archons, formed from the merging of a rogue templar and a high templar, voiced disagreement with the exile of the rogue tribes and too were exiled. A few remained devoutly loyal to Drealan however, such as Vaeregoth. Over the next centuries, the remaining loyal Twilight Archons, save for Vaeregoth, had been destroyed in battle. Vaeregoth then became Drealan's bodyguard and exterminator, charged with hunting down traitors upon Aiur and other Protoss worlds. The rogue tribes later became the 'Dark Templar' and further mergings between dark templar and high templar were outlawed on both sides. As of this writing, Vaeregoth is the only Twilight Archon known to exist, and his power is rivaled only by the Dark Archon, Ulrezaj. |
