Dr. Horace Algers (Portrayed by Ed Mace)
  » Unit: Unknown

BIO:  Most of Algers' history prior to working in the United Military Command's Research and Development division has been sanitized for reasons of interplanetary security. What is known about Algers is that he was a project leader in the Black Sunset Corps. overseeing development of the Saratoga Class battle platform. Algers carries doctorates in biochemistry, temporal mechanics, and fusion physics though the names of the universities he attended are classified.

Algers is often seen as narcissistic, egocentric, and self-absorbed by ConFed officers but these personality traits are confused with focus. At all times, Algers is preoccupied by his research and analysis projects and prefers to let the world unfold around him. Too often for his tastes, UMC officers and members of Congress solicit his input regarding scientific aspects of military and exploration missions. Preferring to end his involvement as rapidly as possible, Algers speaks curtly and expresses disinterest in the needs and wants of...anyone else.

Once the Saratoga saw action during the eighth year of the Zerg War, Algers resigned as project leader within Black Sunset to oversee 'his baby' in the field. Having developed the Saratoga's patented Barracuda anti-matter projection system as well as the prototype anti-matter power cells, Algers believes he has ushered in the future of starfaring technology. Algers also had a hand in the development of the UMC battleships' heavy particle beam cannons, a focused energy beam based upon the Protoss technology discovered on earth three centuries prior.

Corridor 9 once approached Algers and asked him to assist in the development of a virus capable of decimating the entire Zerg population. While Algers has no love of the Zerg, he does not have a burning desire to see them driven to extinction. Algers turned down Corridor 9 to join the Black Sunset Corps. as the Saratoga project was of much greater interest to him. Algers has no preference as to how his weapons of war are used, so long as they're used.
