Let's Play Lost Souls RPG (and other RPG maps)

Post by zany_001 »

Hey guys, I'm judging the entries for the 2011 Last Stand RPG contest over on SEN (www.staredit.net), and will be recording and commenting on the RPGs as I play them. I thought you guys might be interested. The first one is CecilSunkure's Lost Souls RPG part 1, I'll be doing more of it soon, as well as the other RPGs.

Holy christ that growler guncam sound is loud. You should disable that or clean up the audio. You just deafened me.
...
Okay, holy christ, the audio period is a mess. It is so bloody loud that over half of the unit responses are getting distorted. Let's take a step back.

Image

- You should reduce the game audio significantly because I can't hear you as it is. Significantly, as in, about 80% from where it is currently. Then, reduce your mic volume very slightly, since your voice doesn't seem to be as bad. like 10-15%.
- Speak louder, more clearly, a bit slower (especially with your accent). Space out your words forcefully if you have to. Trying to follow the commentary is very difficult, and I am not exactly a good caster. You're mumbling a lot and I have no idea what is going on. I tabbed out of the video and just heard distorted noises and mumbling.

Remember, the volume you're getting out of your speakers is nothing like what direct record is picking up. Check your waveform before you start a major recording to be sure your peaks aren't getting obliterated, and you always want your voice to be audible.

Yeah I messed up the audio on that one, although I've done better previously if you check out some of the temple siege videos on the same channel. I couldn't really re-record though as it was supposed to be a first impressions. The starcraft audio I didn't pick up on my test runs for some reason, but the next video should be much more balanced.

(these multitrack recorders you've been telling me about, do they let me put starcraft audio in one track, my voice in another, and my music in another, all at the same time?)

They sure do, Taer. My LP's have hundreds of views per vid on youtube. And I am a nobody. Actual casters have hundreds of thousands of viewers.

(I know that is an obvious troll.)

Jack > I use fraps, not growler (which doesn't work in windows 7 in my experience), and fraps is set up to record "Windows sound" and "Mic". AFAIK, the option to record windows sound is only available on 7/vista. This causes it to record windows sound, which will pick up starcraft, and then the mic.

In a multitrack recorder like Audition you'll want to record Stereo Mix and mic, which will essentially be the same thing. But I prefer doing this through fraps because it removes the need to sync them afterwards. Then you can multitrack music into it as you want in post-processing.

What's with you Taer? ::)

Instead of trolling you could put your energy into making that campaign y'know...

To be on topic, I think it's a swell idea to make these video reviews. Maybe our CC campaign contest could do the same when the time comes. I'd like to see that, for one.

New one! Sound is much better this time, although if anyone has advice for making the microphone a bit louder I'd definitely like to hear it. I still need a bit more practice on speaking for it I think.

Yep already done that. Maybe I just need a new mic, maybe a Blue Snowball.

It would make the audio quality 1000000% better if you didn't have music playing in the background. Present the audio the way it was in the map, and only that way.

If the map actually has that music, punch Cecil in the face.

But I like my music in the background :3
I'll probably try a few without music, I'm still getting the hang of this whole casting business.
