The Signal, a Single player scenario

Post by GnaReffotsirk »

Download and play "The Signal", a single player scenario here:

http://www.4shared.com/file/Br1JeHjj/Th ... aller.html

It's a story-driven, puzzle scenario where you play as Marcus Grant, a mercenary captain with a strange disease looking to rescue her sister after a strange accident happened to her team while on a mission.

This scenario is a follow-up scene on a mission design effort we tried a few years back in the workshop section. It's a take on what happens next. A few changes too, but the core concept is there, but not indicated.

The scenario has no voice overs, so a lot of text will have to be read.

Save the mighty hammer plox?

Installing:

Just unpack the zip and run TheSignalInstall.exe. It's a sample of how packaging and deployment can work. :)

Game Features\Type:

1. Story driven
2. Installation/Survival
3. Can be quite tricky and hard (save often)
4. In-game Cinematics
5. Camera and Controls: RTS

Well, it's mine, well at least upon closer inspection, none of the elements in this scenario was ever mentioned in the Workshop except the fact about the planet, the unearthed facility, and someone buried inside. It's mostly based on the script I posted here:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1885&start=60

Could it be the psionic guy we discussed in the workshop? Only time will tell.. :D

edit: Btw, there's a strange bug that I can't seem to find. You'll notice it when game starts that an error is displayed, but it doesn't seem to affect anything.

A lot of the ideas that got tossed around in the Workshop were pretty interesting as I recall, glad to see something's come out of them. I will have to check this out for sure, Gna!

Yeah, there's lots of raw goodies in there still. Well, I'm hoping you do. You know, just for the heck of it. :)

Lol. Yeah, that. They say that is actor related. I couldn't find what's causing it. But it doesn't seem to do anything though.

I must be doing something wrong. I downloaded the installer. It wanted to unpack the stuff into the maps directory and I let it.

But the only .exe now is the installer. I have .bat, .ink and then the map. Neither the ink or bat launch the game. They take me to the log-in screen of B.net. If I log in, nothing happens - except that I log in.

I tab out to see that there is a command prompt saying the map is paused and to press any key to continue. I press a key and the command prompt goes away and nothing happens. I tab back into StarCraft and nothing's different.

Yeah, you should choose your Maps folder, and the link (.lnk) is of the batch file. Double clicking the link or the batch file should work.

I did test the installer, and the link. It works.

You should have \The Signal folder in your maps folder if the install worked. (ex. C:\Games\Starcraft II\Maps\The Signal) Try drag and dropping the map unto your sc2 shortcut. Do you have v.1.3 of starcraft 2?

I don't exactly know why this is happening. What's your OS?

Truly impressive!

One slight nitpick though: is the forcefield spam intentional?

Yes. It is supposed to make you feel annoyed, disrupted, and out of control. Did it do its job, or did you find the way to make things more simpler? :)

The insane version of that would make the mission really almost impossible to win.

I think you overdid it a bit with the forcefields. It's really easy to get your whole squad stuck as there is no apparent way to see them coming, and they take forever to disappear. To make matters worse, on my first attempt, it caused the hero to get separated from the rest of the squad, only to get killed quite easily by the giant Immortal.

That was their purpose. Though, Marcus says when Templar Turas starts attacking the LZ that you can use grenades to destroy the Force Fields.

There is a way to get rid of the FF's source, you just need to figure it out. I really can't spoil this since it's part of the puzzle. Every unit and abilities in there does something. *hint

I'm sure you'll figure it out.

I have something to say about the Immortal too, but can't. ;)

If you say so; I must have missed that as the dialogues don't appear in the message log.

Also, noticed a typo in Marcus's briefing: "An outpostS..."
